Total eclipse of the heart <33

Chapter One

It was a rainy Seattle morning and April Kepner woke up to the soft sound of rain outside her window. She lay there for a few minutes hugging her throw pillow and listening to the rain. It was time for another day of work. She carried her typical morning routine and got in the car to start her day. As she was driving down a long empty road listening to the morning radio, she was struck by an immense truck from the side. Her car flung off the side of the road and into a ditch by the forest. She lost conciousness in seconds. Her body was flung from the driver's seat onto a patch of dirt and leaves in front of her car. The world was still and quiet. The truck fleed the scene leaving nothing but April's cold body around. 

Meanwhile at the hospital...

"Oh..goodmorning...." Arizona awkwardly uttered to Carina DeLuca, who she had just split with. Carina stormed out of the attending's lounge leaving Arizona anxious to rant to April as soon as she came in to work. Jackson and Maggie walked hand in hand into the lounge laughing proud as ever to be a couple. "Oh hey Jackson," Arizona interrupted, "Do you know if April has Harriet tonight? I've got gossip and wine and need to make plans." Jackson scoffed, "She's supposed to have her but who knows if she'll decide to start sleeping around with interns again." Maggie laughed and Arizona rolled her eyes and got up to walk out of the room as she said, "Okay then, have fun you two crazy siblings." 

"We've got two incoming GSW's where the hell is April Kepner?" Owen yelled as he paced back and forth in the ER. The interns stood, confused, as they watched their head of trauma panic. "How does she expect me to run an ER with myself, and a bunch of interns!" The ER doors burst open and paramedics rushed in pushing two patients on stretchers. As Owen started to work, he called out to one of the interns, "Keep paging Dr. Kepner until your pager breaks, what is she dead?" He remarked sarcastically. 

It was now about 12pm as Arizona walked into the cafeteria to gossip over lunch with her best friend, as usual. She went to their table but was surprised to find Meredith, Jo, Alex, and Maggie sitting. "Has anyone seen April?" Arizona asked. Mer looked up from her phone, "No idea, she didn't show up for surgery today.." Jo added, "She also hasn't bugged me about wedding toppers which is unusual.." Arizona paused and then walked away. She took out her phone to call April and was left with nothing but a voicemail greeting. 

Down in the ER Owen finished up with his current patients. He sat down to take a breath and tried paging April again. As he tried to get through to her, a call came in. A nurse nodded towards Owen and said, "Dr Hunt, they've got a major accident right outside Seattle,  unidentified middle aged female..We are sending a rig over to the scene." Owen pressed his hands into his forehead and stammered, "Tell them I'm coming. And give me an intern too." 

As Owen sat in the back of the ambulance, an uneasy feeling crept over him. As if something was about to happen. He felt the ambulance jerk to a stop and shake him out of his daydream. He opened the doors to see a young woman, with dark hair standing over the side of the road, shaking. "I was driving and- I saw this accident.. I didn't know what to do and I-" Owen put his hand on the woman's shoulder. "You did the right thing by calling 911. Take a breath. I'll go take a look at the patient, I'm sure everything will be okay." Owen smiled and turned to look at the car. He felt his face go numb as he looked down to see April's body. "April!!" He called out as he stumbled down the hill nearly falling onto her. The paramedics and interns flooded from behind, the shrieks and gasps of the staff drowned out and Owen caught himself almost fainting. He held onto a tree nearby for support and watched as paramedics hurried to put her in the ambulance. "Do you know her?!" The woman yelled. Owen ignored everything and everyone and walked back into the ambulance, holding April's hand on the stretcher. His eyes filled up with tears. The doors to the back of the ambulance shut and he knew he was in for a long painful ride. 

Time seemed like it went forever as Owen and his team tried to keep April alive on the way home. Finally the doors slammed open and April was rushed into GSMH. Owen rushed in with her yelling for everyone to get out of the way as he ran into the trauma room. "Page the chief of surgery, and every department head right now!" He screamed. A minute later Arizona arrived. She saw her best friend fighting to stay alive through the window of the trauma room. Her heart sank to her stomach. She immeditely asked what happened and rushed to her side. "We're not gonna lose her!" Meredith yelled among the chaos. Everyone was in full panic. Everyone was scared. 

Suddenly April gasped. Her eyes shot open. "April! Stay with me!" Arizona yelled. April looked up at Arizona horrified and tried to speak. Struggling to get air she said, "Arizona..." and coughed up blood. "April, April! It's okay! What is it?" April grabbed Arizona's hand and mumbled, "Save my baby before you save me."
