The Ginungagap was, But grass nowhere.
- Prose Edda

In the beginning there was the Ginnungagap. The gaping abyss of existence paralleled the blazing light of Muspel. There fire raged endless. Magma seeped through the cracks of anhydrous realm. Not a pleasant place if I do say so myself. The flames of Muspelheim provided contrast to the frigid ice of Niflheim. Ginnungagap's deathly silence rested between the adversity of Fire and Ice.Fumes arched from Muspelheim, intruding Ginnungagap where they were met with the icy winds of Nifleheim. Hisses and Sputters echoed within the abyssal space. Within the nihility drops of melted ice figured themselves. Slowly but surely Ymir had been born. He lay in Ginnungagap, the flames birthing his sweat. From perspiration grew giants. From water droplets grew a cow
Her name was Audhumbla. She nourished her companion in the Gap with her milk. In turn the salt licks in the ice nourished her. Buri, one of the Aesir, was uncovered by her steady licks. The god gave birth to a son, Bor. He was wed to the giant born Bestla. Their children were half borne, of both the giants and the gods. Chief among them was the future All-Father, Odin. With him was Vili and Ve.
Odin led his two brothers against the mass of Ymir. From his remains they fashioned the world. His blood became the seas, his skin and muscles the soil, plantation from his hair. From his brains came the clouds and the sky was made with his skull. At the cardinal directions stood dwarves carrying Ymir's stolen bone high up above all else.
The gods soon designed the first humans. They were Ask and Embla. The pair had been birthed from the flesh of trees. A fence surrounded their beings upon Midgard. They'd be protected from the chaos bringing of the giants.
In the beginning there was nothing and after The Battle there shall be nothing.
There is no end to this cycle. Everything is reborn eternal as life is sparked in the abysmal Gap.
Such was the truth told Gylfi. Man knew now what they had not. They knew of their inevitable end and how they had come to be. They knew of the milk of Audhumbla and of the fresh raw bleeding flesh of Ymir.
