The essential gist of the Ginnungagap story is similar to many other ancient mythologies.
For example, the Egyptian creation myth.
A run down explanation of that is that there is a primordial ocean, Nun, from it emerges the god Atum. Atum is like the Ymir of our story. Asexually, he created other beings.
There is a HUGE similarity. They both birthed beings through bodily fluids. For Atum it was tears. For Ymir it was sweat.I'm not an expert on Egypt but there.
Now, Greco-Roman myths.
A lot of people probably know this one. But beware it's confusing.
Ginnungagap is here Chaos. Which, is unlike Nun, also a gaping void of utter darkness. Unlike both, Chaos is also a dude...uh...don't question.
So Chaos creates Gaea.
Gaea asks for Uranus
Imma say that cause I can't spell his Greek name. They have kids, Titans. Who, like Odin and his brothers cut up Ymir, cut up Uranus.
And they fashion the world with his body parts.
Sound familiar?It is.
These similarities aren't just coincidences. All three are inter connected. I legitimately believe they stemmed from the same source. For me, it'd be Abrahamic faiths. My theory really only works in those cases. Even if you don't believe in those religions you can probably tell that they bare a striking likeness with each other.
Anywho
On the story itself.
I've seen funnier narrations of it but I felt like being extra and dramatic
