Pain.

It's all I could feel, all I had as company.

It throttled throughout my body as I finally returned to consciousness. Calls of birds echoed in my ears, crying out for my heavy eyelids to lift. But I was cold, it was dark, and I was scared. I was being carried in strong support, legs swaying in the movement. I didn't want to move, I didn't want to wake to the nightmare around me. Suddenly, the movement halted and I felt the grip underneath me shift. My body tensed on instinct but instantly, I wished it didn't. A whimper escaped before I could stop it as aches lashed at my muscles like a whip. Then, a soft shushing could be heard admist the nightmare.

"Stay still" the quiet voice whispered, a warm hand taking mine.

"Everything's going to be fine."

I whimpered a little as another spark of pain flashed through my leg. My heavy eyelids lifted a fraction, fuzzy shapes of orange and blue blurring above me. Surrounding the colour was darkness, light barely available to make sense of what I was seeing. Although my head hurt, I felt oddly safe.

"Rest, I've got you" the gentle voice soothed.

I couldn't help but trust the speaker, the voice was familiar and so was the scent they let off. I lay my head onto a firm surface, exhaling slowly as my eyelids slid close again.

"It's going to be okay, I promise" the voice whispered as the feeling of movement returned.

I hummed softly as exhaustion started overwhelming my battered form.

"I trust...you" I murmured, losing the ability to stay awake, the but not before I heard a reply.

"I trust you too."
