Peter Parker- Energy

"Ugh, Ugh, Ugh." I banged my head on the desk with every syllable. I was currently sitting in my room, trying to finish science homework. All this stuff about thermodynamics and nuclear astrophysics made no sense whatsoever. My boyfriend, Peter knew this stuff like the back of his hand. He's amazing at science. He's amazing at pretty much anything.

I wish he was here right now.

I looked back down at my book, resting my head in the palm of my hand. There was a giant table on the middle of the page explaining the forms of energy, and the differences between thermal, kinetic, and potential energy.

After another five minutes of learning absolutely nothing, I let my head slide off my hand. It glanced off the edge of my book and landed, hard, on the table. I groaned loudly as I sat back up. I rubbed my forehead, where a bump had already started forming.

"Hey,  don't hurt yourself." I felt a pair of arms wrap around my neck from behind.

I didn't even have to guess to know who it was. I felt the spandex of his outfit rub against my cheek.

        "Hi, Peter."

"Hey." He pulled his mask off and kissed me on the cheek before moving around and kneeling in front of me. "What you working on?"

"Science." I said blandly, still staring down at my book.

He sighed. "No duh. I mean specifically."

I turned in my chair so I was facing him. He was looking at me with a bemused expression.

"Fine," I began. "Energy. Thermodynamics. Nuclear astrophysics. Potential, thermal, and kinetic energy. Stuff I will never need to know."

He gave me his cheesy grin. "Are you kidding? I love this stuff. It's great! What don't you understand?"

     "All of it."

Out of nowhere, he grabbed my hand. I felt a small zap. He only smiled. "Feel that? That's thermal energy. Energy stemming from some sort of heat." He pulled me to my feet and spun me in about three circles. "That's kinetic energy. Energy stemming from movement of matter. You are made up of matter, therefore, that was kinetic. Do you get it yet?"

I held my arms out, trying to regain my balance. "Yeah, Okay. I get that part. But what about the laws of thermodynamics. How in the world do you keep those straight?"

He looked down at the floor and thought for a moment.

"Ha! Did I finally stump Peter Parker? The amazing spider-man?" I flopped down on my bed and crossed my legs under me.

"No, I'm trying to dumb down my answer so a mere mortal will understand it."

I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. I simply huffed and crossed my arms.

"That worked better than I expected. Now be quiet and let me think."

I fell backwards onto my back and stared up at the ceiling.

I could hear Peter slowly pacing the floor, talking to himself as he tried to formulate a response.

"One, conservation of energy. All energy is constant. It all has to end up somewhere. Could just throw her across the room. She would end up somewhere. I don't know it that would work. Two, disorder in the universe always increases. I could make her room a mess, have her clean it, and then make it a mess again. Never mind, she might murder me."
