Kayla's Point of View

Waiting quietly for Zayn to return with our drinks from the punch bowl, I admiringly looked around at the wedding reception. After six years of dating each other, Louis and El had finally tied the knot. They newly weds slow danced on the floor, Eleanor's pearl white dress with a periwinkle trim and ribbon adorned her look perfectly. Loose strands of her brown hair collected at the nape of her neck from her elegant updo. The dress fanned out in all directions as Louis twirled her around before planting a soft kiss on her forehead. Tearing back my attention to Zayn, my eyes searched for him longingly back at the punch table. I spotted him nearby while he seemed to be having an intent conversation with Liam. We caught each other's stare for a moment until I flashed a smile and waved. Smiling timidly, he waved back and began to stand up from where he sat with Liam. Nodding his head to whatever Liam said, he ran a hand through his flawless hair. That usually meant he was anxious or nervous.. What was going on? Before I knew it, he had taken a few large strides and now stood before. "Hi, Kay." he said quietly. I only smiled up at him and he tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "Dance with me please?" he asked, his eyes pleading for a yes. "Sure, love." Popping up from my seat, his hands intertwined with mine as we made our way to the dance floor. Thank the Lord it was a slow song, because I couldn't dance if it were to save my life. In the center of the dance floor, Zayn placed his hands carefully on my hips. Mine dangled around his neck loosely. We swayed to the music for a few minutes until I lazily rested my head in the nook of his shoulder. "Love you, Zayn." I stated blankly. He placed a soft kiss on the temple of my head as I inhaled his musky aftershave. After three years of dating, that smell still made me swoon. "There's something I wanna tell you love." he murmured in my ear. My heart skipped a few beats before I answered, "Hmm?" I removed my head from his shoulder and looked at him. Nervously licking his lips, he placed his hands in the pockets of his tux. "Well, today marks our 3 and half year anniversary, Kayla." he began. He slowly pulled out a tiny velvet black box from his pocket. At this point my heart stops. "And I wanted to make you a promise. A promise that one day that'll be me and you." He signaled to where Louis and Eleanor sat at the newlyweds table. Eleanor resting her head on Louis' shoulder while he made casual conversation with Harry. Turning back to Zayn, he rested on one knee and held up the opened velvet box towards me. A silver ring with a fairly large diamond sat in the box. "That will be US, Kayla. I promise you. Whenever you're ready, so am I." Overwhelmed with happiness, a small tear rolled down my cheek.
