Chapter 1

Home time couldn’t come any quicker. My eyes were barely staying open as I tried to pay attention to my math teacher and her rambling. Every time I looked at the clock, either thirty seconds or if I were lucky, a minute had passed by since the last time. My class was quiet listening to the teacher, probably because there's only half the people in due to a viral cold that’s going around. Well it is winter time, it’s to be excepted, I told myself as I picked up my pencil and started to doodle on my book. I let my hand take control over what it wanted to doodle as a small little flower was drawn above one of the many sums on my page. It went on from a flower to a snake with human like eyes and finally a rabbit with wings.

Something hit the side of my neck as I looked down to see a rubber piece. I frowned as I looked about to see that everyone was still paying attention to the teacher, however the teacher was glaring at me a little. Guess she noticed I wasn’t paying attention, I looked back down at the rubber and smiled a little.

When the bell finally rang, I shoved my book and pencil into my bag and leapt out my seat. I gave a small stretch as I threw my bag over my shoulder and headed out the classroom. Thank fuck that’s over, I surpassed a yawn as I headed down the hallway, passing by students that I didn’t know with a few familiar faces. I quickly detoured to the bathroom which was quiet since most of the bitches of the school go home and not hang about, chatting about guys, make up and who's going to marry who. I did the toilet and walked over to the mirrors where I quickly finger-brushed my short light brown hair. My dark brown eyes were staring back at myself, a small girl who's not the skinniest of girls with her hair falling just below her shoulders and looks a bit older than her actual age which is seventeen. I sighed for a moment but quickly smiled back at myself. ‘I better hurry up!’ I told myself as I ran out the bathroom.

I quickly ran down the near empty stairs and into the main courtyard. It’s a large concrete area with benches and tables to sit at with also markings on the ground in case any gym classes do football, rounders or basketball. I remember when I first came to high school, I always walked along the lines and imagined the concrete to be deadly which always seemed mad to be but was incredibly fun.

The school gates were empty apart from one shadow leaning against the wall. As I walked closer the shadow pushed off against the wall and walked towards me. ‘Honestly, you like to take your time,’ a hint of sarcasm could be heard in his voice. ‘Don’t you, Scarlett Amrino?’

I folded my arms. ‘Well I should be thanking you for waking me up in class, Allen Seiron,’ I looked at him with a small smile.

Allen, he treats me like a child just because he's a few inches taller than me. His dark black hair sits just above his unbelievable dark blue eyes which always send chills down people’s spines. Except mine because I have known him since we were children and he the closest friend I have. Allen bumped his fist on top of my head and turned. ‘Well I had to stop you from drawing or teach would have kept you in for detention,’ his voice is quiet low and rough for someone of his age.

I knew he was right but in a way, I just didn’t want to admit it. ‘Well you could have just told me, rather than throw a rubber at me,’ I grumbled as the two of us started to walk down the street. ‘It hurt you know,’ I lied.

I could hear Allen mumbling something under his breath, probably something along the lines of, “lying little bitch.” Allen gave me a quick look as he turned back to the street. ‘I won’t be able to do anything tonight, I'm going out,’ he said to me.

That was something I was beginning to get used to hearing from him. Before we started high school, Allen never went out unless I was with him and he was always around to play but occasionally he goes out with a particular person.
