After my outburst in the club, I went for a walk to calm myself down. I know I shouldn't have taken my anger out on Noah because technically he didn't do anything. I mean, he didn't laugh or even have time to react before I had a full-on bitch tantrum.
I walked along the lake for a while before sitting down on the grass and picking the daisies from the ground.
Why would she say that? She knows that I don't like people knowing and then she goes and tells him - a complete stranger - fully aware of the humiliation it would cause me! She's such a backstabbing bitc-
"Jess?" A deep voice behind me broke my train of thought, making me jump.
I spun my head around immediately, to find one of the two people I really wanted to avoid right now.
"What do you want?" I asked, harsher than I probably should have, seeing as it was Emily I was angry with, not him.
"Are you okay? I mean, what she said was out of order..." He trailed off, clearly not knowing what else to say.
"Can I sit down?" I tore my eyes from the water to look at him. To say that he was attractive would be an understatement. His hair was flopped over to one side, his deep brown eyes staring back at me.
"If I said no would you listen to me?" He obviously didn't take the hint, starting to sit down anyway.
"Jess, look-"
"No! Don't even try to apologise or say sorry because I don't want to hear it." I quickly lifted myself from the floor and turned to face Noah.
"Hey, just wait a second... I just wanted to tell you that what she said in there-" He paused, furrowing his eyebrows, trying to think of what to say. I wasn't about to help him out.
"I don't want your pity, I don't want your sympathy and I definitely don't want you to pretend you care so why don't you just go back and find some slut to sleep with- even better, why don't you find Emily? I'm sure she'd be more than willing seeing as she tried using my problem to pull! Take the hint already, I don't want you here!"
By now we were standing face-to-face... Well not exactly. Him being so tall made it more like face-to-neck but I was too preoccupied to notice.
"Jesus, hang on! Just let me speak."
"Why? Why should I waste my time having this pointless argument with someone I hardly know and already despise?"
He frowned as he took a step back. Maybe that was a bit harsh, but why should I be nice when all he did was laugh in my face."Look, you know what, I'm done with this conversation." I sighed, picking my bag off the floor and storming off.
"You know what? I came to apologise. I came to tell you that I was sorry. I don't know what the I did or what the fuck your problem is, but I've realised now that it was a waste of time. I thought you were different to her, that skank emily or whatever she's called, but you, being a bitch like this, you're just as bad. There's your bag." He chucked my bag at me. I must've left it at the bar. I turned around and caught the clutch, sucking back the tears that were quickly forming puddles in my eyes.
My voice lowered until it was almost inaudible. "Stop. Just stop, okay? Me and her, we're nothing alike, so don't you dare say I'm just as bad. You have no idea." With that, a single tear escaped, rolling down to my chin before dropping to the ground.
He ran his hand through his hair and sighed. "Shit. I'm sorry, I didn't mean it. I just... I-"
He looked down, lost for words. But he did mean it. He meant every word of it and words aren't something you can just take back.
