Lauren's POV
I stared at him. Soulmates, oh my God, he feels the same way, but it's just pasta. Whatever, he's into me! Oh my God, this is moving really fast.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked, he seemed rather caught off guard, but I would be, too. Anyone would be in his position.
"I'm so sorry," he panicked. "I just think you're kinda cool, and really cute, oh my God, what am I even saying!"
"Hey, man, it's alright," I said, hoping to calm him. "I think you're cute, too, and I was going to ask your number and see if we could go out, like on a date, but you invited me first.
"So," he drummed his fingers on the table. "Do you want this to be a date?" An adorable smile danced onto his face. I almost blushed at his beautiful expression and his gorgeous chocolate eyes.
But I answered the question. "Very much, yes." He smiled even wider.
"Very well then, I, Alex Hamilton, am on a date with the rather adorable John Laurens."
"How are you so smooth!" I said, earning myself a laugh from Alexander.
"Okay, sirs, I've got your drinks." Veronica came out from the kitchen with two brimming mugs of beer. "Are you ready to order?" She took out a notepad and a pen.
"We are," Alex smiled, folding his menu closed. "I'll have the Number Three, please."
"The same," I said as she jotted down the orders.
"Thank you, they'll be out in a few." She went back into the kitchen, leaving us alone together.
"So, you think I'm smooth?" Alex purred, leaning on his elbow. "Because I can make this evening a lot of fun, if you're feeling adventurous, that is."
I nodded, blushing like a madman. "S-sure, what did you h-have in min-nd?" God, this man was making me so fricking flustered.
"Well, would you want to see a movie? There's a good one out, The Greatest Showman, I think."
"Oh, I've heard of that one, what are the times?" Somehow,
"I think that there's a 9:00 showing tonight if you don't think that's too late, I don't have class tomorrow, so I'd be fine."
I smiled wide, hoping I didn't seem too exited. "Sounds fun to me, let's do it."
**********
A few minutes and some awkward banter later, Veronica came around with our orders. I thought it was weird that we were the only customers in the restaurant, but it was nice to be just me and Alex. Also, convenient for the writer.
"So, what do you do?" Alex asked me, quite randomly.
"What do you mean?"
"Like are you a student, or do you just work at Schuyler's?" He explained as he poured TONS of parmesan on his Alfredo.
"Oh, I'm an intern at a local aquarium, but I need to pay rent somehow, so Eliza offered me the job as soon as she could."
"That's cool, are you and Eliza close?" He asked as he twirled the noodles on his plate.
"We're roommates, and she's currently in search of a date friend, so I thought I'd get myself out there as well."
"Is that why you're okay with my awkward flirting, I mean we've only just met and we've already made more plans."
"Yes, but I do think that you are actually really cool, but I don't know that much about you."
"Well, what would you like to know, I'm not that interesting."
"I have to disagree, you were pretty intriguing when you spilled coffee all over me, so just introduce yourself, like you would moving to a new high school in a movie or something."
He tapped his chin in thought for a minute, but some words soon flew to his head.
"Well, I'm twenty-one, my name is Alexander Hamilton, I'm a law student sophomore at Princeton, and my favorite colour's green."
"What about your family? Do you have any siblings?"
He paused, as if he didn't want to answer the question.
"I don't like to speak of them, don't ask me again, please."
I was shocked and taken aback. For such an open and outgoing young man, it was weird that he didn't want to talk about his family. Very weird.
"So," he said awkwardly, pulling me from my head. "Do you like the food?"
"Yeah, of course, but I'm almost finished, would you like to go soon?"
"Sounds good to me."
