Alex liked John's family. John was an only child, but his parents had to be the sweetest people Alex had ever meet.
His mother was an absolute angel, her chocolate curls bouncing around her as she excitedly gave Alex funny childhood stories about John. It seemed to Alex that the fact that she was fifty-eight didn't affect her energy. She was bouncy and joyful, and Alex could see where John got his bubbly nature.
His father, however, was a gentle, quiet hug. He was a sweet but wise man with laugh lines from his wife's humours and and greying black hair from the pains of everyday life. He laughed at Alex's jokes, and chose to hug him rather than shake his hand.
Alex could see where John got his kind and gentle, yet fun-loving and optimistic personality.
**********John's mother cooked, and though Alex doubted her(John couldn't even make cereal, just coffee), her food was splendid, and Alex stuffed himself until he decided that he liked his pants and wanted them to fit more than he wanted a fifth scoop of stuffing.
After two slices each of Mrs. Lauren's delicious apple pie, the four of them settled on the couch to watch old Christmas movies, and sing along of course.
Alex never had a family as a kid. He was a foster kid with nothing, and had worked his butt off throughout his life to get to college. He was lucky to stay in one place for ten years, but never really grew close with anyone. The other foster kids came and went. He knew not to get attached, because it would just hurt more when they left you.
He had only felt like this once before, and it was not his most pleasant memory.
**********
They were close
Her sisters were his
He felt at home
His father still didn't hold a grudge
But his conscious sure did
He couldn't shake the pain
No matter if he was in love
Or if he had moved on
And they were friends
He guessed it was the fear
The fear of hurting him, too
But he wouldn't
He would do anything for this man
This man was his home
This man was his family
And he was in love
