Chapter 5
-Lightning-
I woke up to the smell of medicine and magic. My sight was blurry, my arms wouldn't move. I opened my eyes wider, thinking the blurriness would go away. But, to no avail, the blurriness stayed. Luckily, no one was in the room to notice my appearance. There was a table next to the bed, filled with tree fae medicine and stone tools. I tried to get up, to move, but my hands were strapped down and numbed to give the effect that I couldn't move, and I couldn't. Why, I wondered. Am I untamable, even to storm fae standards? I showed them my powers. I disobeyed the law. CRAP! I franticly tried to get out of the bindings that held me. My legs wouldn't move either. I tried to move my head. They strapped that down too. They couldn't trust me.
Rage built up in me. Why could I not be free? Why? I yanked at the bindings. They
were solid and strong (and itchy) ropes that held me down. Rope can burn, I thought. Let it burn down. I could feel my eyes changing. The power that was held down could not be held for much longer. The barrier broke and I burned those stupid little ropes to the ground. I sat up, rubbing my arms. They had red welds on them. So did my ankles. And my head. I growled at the door. I heard footsteps echoing in the silence.
I stood up, watching the door. I looked in the mirror. There was a red strip of pushed down skin on my forehead. It looked like a headband. Near my eye was a scar. I don't know where it came from, but it wasn't there before I encountered Jason and the boys. Maybe they hit me a lot, and I was bleeding. Maybe the lightning hit me. But I'm immune to lightning strikes. Hmm.
I checked the door again, my rage still powerful and strong. I felt brave. I felt, good. I heard the footsteps come closer and open the door. I held my hand up, a lightning ball of fire forming in my hand. It was really large, and blinded me. The door opened. I released it right on. The person fell to the ground. I ran out the door, running over the body.
What I didn't know.....
That body was of Arylla.
-Arylla-
I was walking down the hallway to Lightning's room when I heard a blast. I paused, surveying her door. It wasn't broken. I sighed. The hallway was silent, the blast echoing through it. I quickly walked over to her door, scowling at the loud noise my feet made on the wooden door. I paused, hand on the doorknob, not wanting to go in. But, I went with my gut and opened the door.
Lightning was standing on the other side of the room, hands out. There was a fiery ball of lightning, I would guess, and that's all I saw when it was fired straight at me. I fell to the ground, unconscious.
I woke up in a room that looked just like the room I tried to get in to. Lightning wasn't here. She was probably running loose, unaware of what could happen out there in the wilderness. Unless she's being held, and on trial for attempted murder, my mind whispered. I shook that thought out of my head, pushing it into the deep dark recesses of my mind. I sat up, watching the door warely. No one came.
Next to the bed was my combat boots. I slipped them on. One of them felt
uncomfortable. I slipped my foot back out and looked down. There was a black hair tie in the bottom. I bent down to grab it when my back screamed in pain. I arched back, and that caused even more pain. Dots dancing in front of my eyes, I lifted the combat boot up with my foot and grabbed the hair tie. On it was written:
Use the hair tie to pull your hair back in an inconspicuous way. Put the combat boots on. Walk out the door, down the hallway, and take three lefts. Open the door at the end of the hall. Then, go outside and find Lightning. She'll be out there, promise included.
