That next morning was the hardest either of them had to face. (Y/N) woke up first only to find Atem's hand still on hers. She felt obligated to stay and not rush the morning because of what he was about to do to himself. Just thinking about made her feel sick. She wanted to cry so badly for loosing him and for spending what is left of her life alone. Atem woke shortly after her and smiled at her.
"Good morning." He said with his hand still on hers.
"I would hardly call this a good morning Atem. This is dangerous and I do not think it would be wise of you to go through with this. I am asking you as your wife and friend to stop this, we can think of another way, I promise."
"Do not make a promise you cannot keep." Atem said.
"I am not. I told you that remember. We need a great Pharaoh like you on the throne." She said and got up.
"I know. I love you and doing this will keep you safe along with the rest of Egypt, even the world." He said following her.
"I love you too and that is why I am talking you out of this." She said slightly angry.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and placed his chin on her shoulder. He kissed her cheek from behind and she turned around and kissed him back. She closed her eyes and when they broke she could not look at him in the eye. He saw her look down and gently lifted her face by her chin. He forced her to make eye contact with him. She looked into his violet eyes and that is when she lost her inner battle. She felt a tear fall from her eyes, but she was too distracted to collect it so she just let it fall down her face and it fell into the opal stone in her chest which caused it to glow. She felt another go into the stone.
"Please stop this while you still can Atem."
"(Y/N) we all have necessary sacrifices we have to make, but I know we will meet again (Y/N)."
"Fine. I just wish we had more time." (Y/N) said.
"Me too. We have till midday, and you can do a lot in half a day."
"Atem, how do you know how to say the perfect thing at the perfect time?" (Y/N) said and both of them snickered.
They walked out to the garden and talked for a while and talked about many things making the minutes feel like hours together until Atem got the idea to go for a ride together. (Y/N) nodded immediately and they rode with each other thinking about how they came to be. Once enemies and now married. While deep in her thoughts she got an idea. Her thoughts went to the time she died. She looked at her stone and thought that if there was a way she could remove it and survive, a part of her would still be in the Millennium Puzzle. She could still be with him, or at least she would be connected to him enough to witness his return. How am I going to get this stone out of my chest in time, and survive? Even if I do not survive, there is still that small chance I can wait for him, so he is not alone in his return.
They rode for a while longer, then got off and just sat together outside the village. (Y/N) sat and laid down on the sand. Atem snickered at her and he knew she would end up having this sand in her hair later. She thought of telling him her plan, but there was no point in doing so since he would forget it. They both dreaded returning to the palace, but when they did Atem wandered through the palace alone. (Y/N) went here Isis usually stayed with her fireplace with blue fire and sat beside her.
"Isis, I have a plan."
"What (Y/N)?"
"If I remove this stone and put it in the Millennium Puzzle, I may be able to go in with the Pharaoh." She said.
"Why would you want to go in with him, it is far too dangerous. I cannot loose two friends." Isis responded. "It is highly likely you will not be able to survive, after all, it is what saved you when you died."
"Isis, I have a strong feeling this will work just trust me. How can we remove it?"
"Just try to remove it, but if it feels wrong, stop immediately."
(Y/N) shakily put her hand on the stone and proceeded to pull it out. She gasped as she dug her fingers into the wound where it rested. She dug hr fingers in deeper and felt the bottom of the stone. It hurt so badly to pull out, but in her eyes it was worth it. It seemed like the only way to keep in contact with the Pharaoh and help him, for she knew that eventually he would return, and be hungry for answers about his past. She winced as she finally ripped it out of her. All of the gold markings that once adorned her were gone, and the wound slowly sealed up again. (Y/N) panted as she admired the stone in her hand. Isis was in shock that it worked and they hugged with their feeling of victory.
However, eventually (Y/N) and Atem had to have their last goodbye. Both of them felt torn up into shreds over this.
"(Y/N), I need you to understand this."
"Shh, stop talking. I just need you to have something that belongs to you, it was a gift from me after all." She said and wrapped her arms around his neck as he wrapped his around her waist.
"Your markings are gone, and where is the stone."
"I told you to stop talking Atem." She kissed him and ran her hand with the stone in it down and placed into the eye of the Millennium Puzzle.
After they had their final moment together, or so it seemed, Atem walked away from her and into a room made of stone. As he walked in the large stone door closed behind him, and he carried out his plan to lock away the Shadow Games and himself for eternity.
The end.
