I was crouched down in a bush.

Yep.

When Millie had slammed the door in my face, I tried a different approach and ran to the store to pick up something. I had set the objects down on the porch and knocked. When she didn't answer, I rang the doorbell and ducked behind a bush.

The bush was a little far off, but just close enough so that I could see her reaction.

The door opened, revealing a very pissed-off Millie. I swear I could see steam coming out of her ears. She glanced around, causing me to slide farther down behind the bush, which was a bit uncomfortable, especially since…

I began to itch? Confused, I looked down. Red, itchy splotches had appeared all over my arms. I just about screamed, but I quickly clapped a hand over my mouth, looking up. Millie was standing right in front of me, eyebrow raised.

I smiled. “Nice day for examining bushes, huh?”

I breathed out deeply, pressing the ice against the stings. It felt nice, probably not the best way to heal poison ivy wounds, but still nice.

“I can't believe you!” Millie said, pacing the floor in front of me. I nodded and pressed the ice harder against my arms.

“I mean, first you make it clear you don't want me around,” she continued. This had been going on for at least a half an hour. “Then you show up, I slam the door and you bring this?” She gestured to the objects on the table.

I shrugged. “Millie, I'm sorry, I really am, but-”

“How could you be so stupid?” She exclaimed, tugging on her bangs. “No, why are you so stupid?!”

I winced. Ouch. “Millie, please just hear me ou-”

“And furthermore, why did you bring-”

“Millie-”

“-this stuff, I just dont-”

“Millie!” I yelled, standing up to face her. She spun around, eyes wide. Our noses brushed against each other. My mind exploded with that single thought, and that's all that echoed through my mind as I stared into her eyes.

Those beautiful, beautiful eyes.

Our noses brushed together...

Brushed together...

Together...

She had kissed me before, I thought to myself. I mean, would it really matter if I just…

I leaned in…

Angled my head…

Eyes fluttered closed…

Suddenly, I was pushed away. My eyes snapped open wide. Millie had her arms crossed over her chest, looking at me with an expression I couldn't quite place.

Reluctance?

“Finn,” she whispered, staring me in the eye. “You have a girlfriend.

That didn't stop you before, I wanted to say. Instead I just looked away in embarrasment. My cheeks flushed as grabbed the bag of ice on the table. “Thanks for your help,” I muttered, heading for the door.

“Finn-” Millie started.

“It's fine,” I assured her, two objects catching my eye before I closed the door.

The objects I had bought her.

A box of chocolates.

And a single rose.
