"Every day was the same. Wake up, get dressed, drink c-coffee, go to work. Then get home, eat my take-takeout dinner for one, and go to bed. but tonight w-w-was different. Very different.
I had gotten home from work earlier than usual- usual so I decided to cook dinner for myself instead of ordering takeout. Before I tell-tell the rest of m-m-my story, I need to make one thing clear. I'm not crazy.
I finished eating my dinner and put the dishes in the sink before going t-to bed. But as I was falling asleep I heard a pounding on th-on the door. My bedroom door. No, I was alone. I live alone. That's why this story makes me sound crazy but I told you. I told you I'm not.
But the banging on the door, it was a little girl. Yes, a young girl. A child. She called me 'mommy' but I wasn't her mom. She said that her daddy was chase-chasing her with a gun and that I had promised. I didn't know what was happening so I ignored her at-at first. But she didn't stop- she wouldn't stop screaming. I finally got out of bed and opened the door. She ru-rushed in and slammed the door shut behind her. She-she locked it. I asked her what was going on and all she said was that daddy had a gun.
I wal-walked to the door and tried to open it but she started screaming at me. She said that I-I promised. No, I din't know what she was talking about. I still-still don't. Anyway, I locked the door again and went over to her to calm her down. I needed her to stop crying so I could listen in the hall. I gave her a pillow and told he-her to squeeze it if she got scared. Then I told her to hide in the bathroom while I checked the hall. I opened th-th-the door and looked down the hall but there was no one there. No one there. I went back to the bedroom and grabbed a lamp from the bedside table to use as a weapon in case you were hiding somewhere.
I snuck-snuck around the house looking for you but I came up em-empty. Yes of course I was sure! I checked the whole house twice! Nothing! Nothing. Let me finish My story! Thank you. Apology acc-accepted.
I didn't find anyone in the house so I went back to the girl in the bathroom. I told her there was no one-no one in the house and that everything was going to be alright-alright. I decided to take her to the police station, I-I told her she would be safe there. I wrapped her in a blanket and took her and the pillow to my car where I let h-her sit in the front seat because she was too scared to be alone.
We rode to the police station in silence because the sound of the radio made her feel on edge. We got there and I carried her in wrapped in the blanket, and made sure she still had the pillow. I took her t-to the first officer i could find to ask for help. I found an officer. I found someone to ask for help and he asked me what was wrong.
Let me finish! I told him what happened but here's the part that really makes me s-s-s-sound crazy. He asked me where the child was. I looked down and the only things in my arms were a pillow and blanket. The o-officer asked me what was going on. When I looked up I saw-I saw her standing next to the officer. She p-pulled his gun off of his belt and pointed it at me. She aimed the gun at me. She screamed at me. You promised, you promised! I don't know! I don't know what I promised!
I started screaming. Who-who wouldn't? I had a gun-a gun pointed at my face. The officer asked if I was alright and I just pointed at the girl and kept screaming. The officer looked right at the girl and turned back to me, confused.
Exactly! It was like he couldn't see her. He couldn't see her. I just kept screaming and begging for someone to help me. For someone to stop her. I finally realized that no one cared. No one cared. No one cared, damn it no one cared! They all just stared at me like I was crazy! I'm not crazy! I'm not Crazy!"
"Dylan? Who are you talking to?"
"No one nurse Penny."
"Have you taken your medicine today?"
"Yes nurse Penny."
"Alright. It's almost time for lights out. Are you gonna behave tonight?"
"Yes, nurse Penny. As I was saying, no one was listening to me. No one would help. And then- Then the girl screamed even louder. Even louder. And she- And her face went pale. After that I fainted. I woke up here. In this room. Orderlies everywhere. Tied to that bed. And then a few weeks later I met you. But I do have to ask; Why were you chasing her that night?"
