Nani collected her phone and charger, sticking the items into her backpack. Joshua watched her, shaking his head. "So that's it?" He sat back on the sofa, folding his arms over his chest. "Just like that? You're leaving?"

She nodded, setting her bag down and fixing her hair to the side. "I think both of us said what we needed to, I'm done. I quit, Joshua."

"You quit?" He stood up, scoffing. "You can't quit."

"I just did, I quit being your employee, your cousin, your maid, I'm done." She shrugged, grabbing her bag off of the floor, throwing it over her shoulder.

He put his hands on his hips. "And where are you going to go? Huh? You've known that little Santo for three weeks. Watch you give it up to him, he'll send you right back."

She rolled her eyes, walking toward the front door. "Bye Joshua, I hope things work out for you."

"Work out for me?!" He opened the door, shoving her out and slammed it behind her. "Stupid bitch."

Nani sighed, looking around the front yard, "Milo?" She walked around the back, he was chained to the tree, part of the reason she was arguing with Joshua so early in the morning. "Hi baby, are you ready to go?"

She heard a window slide open forcefully and Joshua began yelling with his head sticking out of it. "And leave my fucking dog right there!"

She flipped him the finger, walking past the window with Milo trailing behind her. She walked out of the front gate, not even bothering to shut it behind her before making her way down the street, passing block after block before she heard a familiar engine coming up being her.  She rolled her eyes, yet another person she was beefing with. He began to honk, her reflexes kicking in and she turned her head to look, sure enough it was the red Impala pulling up behind her.

She cursed under her breath, he was with Cesar and a homeboy so he didn't pass by her house, right? She didn't want him to know she was leaving Joshua's house, she just wanted to leave without any questions. But the backpack on her back was already stirring up questions in his head.

Nani had already spoken to Mrs. Martinez, she said she could stay as long as she needed to, even with Milo. As long as she took care of him and cleaned up after him. But without her job now, it was going to be hard to get on her feet again. She didn't want Oscar to know she was staying there, more-so because of Mario, he was going to think wrong and lash out.

She ignored him, pretending as if she didn't hear anything and continued walking, until he pulled up next to her.

"Amor." Oscar looked pass Cesar through the passenger window. "Fuck you goin'?"

"Taking Milo for a walk, Oscar." She shrugged without eye contact. "Is there a problem?"

He scoffed, putting the car in park and motioning over to his window, she complied, rolling her eyes. He looked down at the gas meter, then at her. "Why you lying to me?"

"What are you talking about?" She crossed her arms, looking down to make sure she had Milo chain grabbed right.

He looked in the review mirror, pursing his lips, pushing his sunglasses down with his index finger. "So now you don't know what I'm talking about?"

She narrowed her eyes at him, with a shake of her head. "No?"

"I just spoke to your little cousin, what do you think he said to me?"

She shrugged, annoyed. "I don't know, he's stupid. Bye." She began to walk again, stepping onto the side walk and strutting off.

Oscar cussed, opening his door and letting it fly shut behind him. "You two cool to wait here while I deal with this girl? You ain't got any plans or anywhere to be, right?" He looked at Cesar and his cousin, they both knew better so they shook their heads. "I didn't think so." He jogged towards her, catching her by her forearm. "Tell me where you're going, Nani."
