Emily's POV
"Look, I made it a point never to tell you this since you don't remember. I guess I'll just tell you about it. When you got this job, it was...me. I offered it to you at your graduation."
"What?" I'm at a loss for words. Everything I've gone through, getting this amazing job, having my own apartment, a car, it's all because of him. I don't know how to feel. "This was all from you, all this time?" I ask. He silently nods.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier. I just thought that it was better at first but now I see, this is something that you should know." He rubs the back of his neck, a habit that he does when he is nervous. His confession brought me to a lot of questions that I now need the answers to.
"Why did you pick me?" I finally ask. "I'm no better than any of the other girls at my graduation if not worse." I just don't understand exactly what's happening but because of this I'm here now, pretty much living with him instead of staying at my own apartment like I should.
"That's not entirely true." His tone is suddenly serious, a sign that he means business. "Emily, when I saw you at that graduation I could tell that you would make a great model. You're beautiful, unlike any of the other girls in the room."
"Why did you pay for my apartment and car, why was that necessary?" The entire situation is all so weird, and I feel stupid. How could I ever forget that was him? I saw him, I met him, I talked to him on the phone, my damn memory is all just fucked up.
"Emily, I don't want to seem rude but..." He rubs the back of his neck again.
"Go on, you can tell me." He sighs. "Tell me, why did you pay for my car and apartment, in addition to a job." I'm not mad at him, I can't be. It's just complicated to comprehend exactly how I feel about him doing this. None of it is bad.
"I just noticed that you were kind of...alone. Everyone else had their family with them and you were just there, not that that's a bad thing. I thought maybe I should add to the deal get you your own apartment and a car." I shake my head.
"This is crazy. No one lives this kind of life. Getting a paying professional modeling job at the age of nineteen and a car and apartment to go with it. You know, you could actually stop paying for my apartment and my car because I don't even use them." I think about what I just said. I wouldn't have anywhere to go if we had another fight. "You know what?" I shake my head. "Forget I just said that, I wouldn't have anywhere to go if we had another fight."
"So you want me to spend money on you?" he asks.
"No, I didn't say that. I just meant that I would need somewhere to go if we ever had a fight and taking the apartment away would mean that I would have to find a hotel."
"So you're saying that we're going to have a lot more fights?" God, he needs to stop putting words into my mouth.
"No, stop doing that. I never said that. No relationship is perfect, and we definitely aren't perfect," I explain. "Thank god that I don't want a perfect relationship, I just want one that'll last."
"Is that so?" I nod. "Any other questions?"
"Oh, I got a million. Why the were you even at my graduation?" He slowly starts smiling. "Tell me."
"Okay fine. The graduation wasn't the first time that I saw you."
"Oh my god, you're such a stalker!"
"Yes, but I'm your stalker." This conversation with him almost makes me completely forget why I was crying earlier and when I notice, I stop smiling. "What's wrong?"
