"And then he walked me home," I concluded my summary of what had happened last night. Sakura frowned, shaking her head.
"Did you learn anything from last night?" she asked me, her eyes narrowed and hands on her hips. Even when sitting, Sakura could tower over me, using her overwhelming presence to her advantage.
"You're grumpy today," I commented, which was the wrong answer as Sakura lifted to her feet in an elegant movement and stomped to the bathroom.
Confused, I looked at her back until she turned a corner.
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked the small cactus on our desk. "I know I was wrong, but I didn't harm Sakura with my mistakes?"
It was supposed to be a statement, but uncertainty turned it into a question. Although I was hesitant to suspect Sakura, she was the only one who knew everything.
"I don't know anymore," I groaned, banging my head against the desk. Thinking about it was going to turn my brain into juice -I could better give up and go with my guts.
My guts told me that this was bound to end in a disaster for all parties involved, needing only a millisecond to determine that we headed for doom, death and destruction. Still, I didn't want to lose a good friend. Besides, I didn't have any proof at all. Sighing, I focussed on my work attempting to forget about Sakura, Kaoru, and the mysterious text message.
Without any dates to lighten my evenings, I was feeling pretty lonely. The television could only do so much to lift the extreme boredom I was experiencing.
I wanted to call Kaname to spend some time with him, but I hadn't found the rights words to say yet. It shouldn't be so difficult to contact a friend, even if I had a crush on said friend.
"We're just friends," I lectured myself. "I can call him."
Finally, I understood the pain Kaoru had gone through when he had had to call me.
Thinking about Kaoru was a bad idea as my mood tended to take a dive when I did so. Sakura was still angry with me, refusing to exchange more words than was necessary to perform her job.
Determined I pressed 'call', waiting until Kaname would pick up his phone.
"Ah, [L/N], good to hear from you." Kaname sounded slightly out of breath.
"Are you okay?" I asked him, wondering whether he was running.
"I'm fine. Why did you call?"
"I'm bored!" I complained, just the fact that I could whine and that Kaname was listening lifting my mood considerably.
"Fortunately, that isn't my problem. Why don't you go on a date?"
"I'm banned from dating for a while. Seriously, I'm not going to go on dates anymore."
"You... banned yourself?" Kaname asked, amusement in his voice.
"Yes! And now I'm bored," I explained.
"And I have the honour of providing you with entertainment?"
"Preferably."
It was silent on the other end of the line, only Kaname's ragged breathing and the static on the line echoing in my ear.
"Okay," he agreed to my surprise. "I'm in the park close to the shrine. The one where you can take boat rides. You can find me there if you're interested."
"I'll see you there," I told him, already on my way to the door.
