Something is wrong.
The once joyful and lively waters have become still and uneasy. The taste of fear and uncertainty fills the salty water. Fish streak past with whispers of gossip and fear. They swim as fast as they can to find shelter from the mysterious force that has changed their once-peaceful environment.
The whales that once came to sing songs and tell stories that you could hear for miles are gone, there is no music. They are too scared, too nervous to sing.
Along the sea bed, the coral reefs, and kelp forest three warriors keep watching, guarding their precious home against a danger they know nothing of. They stare off into the darkness, high and low for anything that could pose a threat. The creatures above feel it as well. The air has gone stale, the wind has stopped blowing and no one dares to make a sound. They hide and wait for something to happen, hoping that they will stay safe. Their trust is in those who protect them.
Something changes. It's quiet at first, just a rumble, but it gets louder, almost deafening. A sound that can be heard from miles and miles away, low and ominous but loud and powerful. It sends shivers of fear and terror, down the spines of everyone who hears it. The ground shakes and the waves crash upon the shore violently. Panic spreads, but all are too terrified to move. Too scared to make a sound. A few minutes pass and it only grows louder, and slowly an hour passed, the roar almost deafening.
The water is rough, huge waves on the surface of the water crash upon the shore dragging trees into the depths of the ocean and destroying some of the beautiful coral reefs. Even the sea senses something is wrong and has started to panic, trying to warn others of the dangers that lurk far away.
Suddenly the roaring stops, it doesn't slowly die out as it had come, it just stops. Leaving behind a sense of terror. Once again everything is quiet and unmoving. The sea calms itself. The uncertainty of what is happening makes it hard to breathe.
A boy shakes in fear inside the kelp forest, frantically looking along with the darkness, searching for danger, hoping he sees nothing and this will all pass soon enough. He hates conflict, and will do anything to avoid it, but knows he must do what he can to protect his home and his family. His head is spinning, his eyes wide. It wasn't until he heard the roar that he started to panic, he was fine up until then but soon was cowering in fear and covering his ears.
It takes a few hours but everything goes back to the way it was, the feeling of fear is replaced with peace. There is still unease but the overwhelming sense of tension has lessened and everyone can't help but relax a little. Convincing themselves that the threat has passed for now. The boy still sits, too scared to move, it isn't until he starts to become light-headed that he slowly swims to the surface. Untangling himself from the kelp. He is cautious, and wary of his surroundings, but makes it to the surface safely.
He is far from the island, it will take about half an hour to swim back, but that's nothing to him. He combs his fingers through his blond hair and scans his surroundings. Things have calmed down enough that he feels it is safe to report back but just as he is about to go home he sees something along the horizon.
His breath catches in his throat and his heart rate picks up. The boy gasps and quickly ducks underwater out of sight. He looks underwater for what he saw but nothing big is seen, so he peeks his head above water just enough to see and finds it not as big as he feared. Defiantly not big enough to make the roar he heard hours go.
Mustering all of his courage and taking a deep breath, he keeps his head above water and swims closer. Never once does he take his eyes off of the possible threat, just like he was trained, but as he gets closer the less he thinks there is a threat.
A piece of driftwood floats along the surface of the water, barely big enough to keep the boy on top above water. The blond cannot contain his curiosity, he drops all caution and swims closer, grabbing the side of the driftwood and getting a closer look at the human.
He has never seen a human up close before, only heard stories. Though never has he heard of a human with light green hair. The human's hair almost reminded him of the clearest tropical water. A closer look at the boy's face tells the blond that he is indeed unconscious but breathing. Though he looks like he is freezing and in need of medical attention. Scratches and the beginnings of bruises litter his body. A large gash on his forehead looks pretty painful to the blond and he takes pity on the mint-haired boy.
"You look harmless enough." The blond whispers to himself, his voice sweet and soft, "It won't hurt to get you to safety, I can't just leave you here, can I?" He takes a deep breath and starts to push the driftwood to shore, his golden tail visible just under the surface of the water.
