*one year later*

I sighed, turning my phone over so it was lying screen-down.

"You okay?" Nick came into my room after a gentle knock before letting himself in.

"I'm fine" I avoided looking at him. I felt the bed dip down next to me as I sat on the edge.

"Doesn't seem like it..." he pulled my hands apart to prevent me from fidgeting with them.

"It's just one of those texts. The ones I got when I first moved here a while ago. But it's fine. It's not a big deal"

Nick sighed and rubbed his face with his hands. "Tj, it's not fine. No one should be doing th-what does it say?" He cut himself off as I could see he began to grow anxious.

I handed him my phone so he could unlock it and go to my messages. He placed my phone back into my hands with a very heavy sigh.

I glanced down at it, re-reading the confusing message.

Taylor-it's been a while hasn't it? Come to the address below and everything will be fine. 6:00pm

I copied and pasted the address into my map app for me to look at later. It was currently 4:45 so I had about 45 minutes before I needed to leave.

"Let me go with you." Nick demanded.

"No." I said firmly, standing up. Nick looked very tall compared to me.

"Yes." He said just as firmly. "We will leave at 5:30 no later." He spoke, and with that he left and shut the door behind him.

I got dressed, leggings and a hoodie with my checkered vans and did my makeup. I kept my hair wavy and headed down the stairs to see Nick pacing by the front door.

"I'm ready" I breathed.

The car ride was silent. Nick drove, keeping his right hand on my thigh. My hands were busy fidgeting in my lap to turn the radio on. We listened as the GPS told Nick where to turn.

We came to a building. It wasn't old, but it wasn't new. It was brick and had a heavy black door on the side. Nick parked in the alleyway next to it. Everything began to feel familiar.

Nick opened the heavy door just after adjusting the small handgun that sat in the waistband of his pants, underneath his shirt with no visibility. I had a pocket knife in my bra, along with my phone and a small roll of cash.

Nick and I walked down a hallway, as all of the room doors were closed. It looked looked like the basement of a building. There were a few black doors on either side of us, all closed with lights off. My nerves grew as the hallway made a left turn, nick and I followed it. We glanced down the hallway and noticed a single door open on the right side with a light on, shining into the hallway.

We cautiously walked in to see Aiden at a desk, facing us while writing something on a piece of paper. I cleared my throat as Aiden breathed.

A slow, unwelcoming smile crept onto his face. "Ah, Taylor, hello." He stood up.

I backed up as he came around his desk and reached his hand out to shake mine. I slowly, with shaking hands, gently held his hand and shook it, feeling disgusted by touching him.

"You know him?" Nick looked to me.

I cleared my throat. "He is my uncle...Aiden" I sighed

"Nick. I know you" He said as he shook his hand.

Nick turned To me and furrowed his eyebrows, I shrugged in response as Nick was wondering if I was the one who talked about him to Aiden.

"Sit" Aidens loud voice boomed.

Nick and I sat at the two chairs in the opposite side of Aidens desk, across from him.

"I want you to work for me" Aiden spoke. "I have taken over our city in Florida, as you know, and I am trying to take over Los Angeles."

I sighed. Nick looked at me with concern.

"I do not want to get involved in your stupid business and you fucking know this. Ai-"

"There's a catch. If you don't, you won't see the person you love again." He gently glanced at nick.

"You wouldn't" I said.

"What makes you think that?" He chuckled, slamming his hands on the desk.

I looked around, fighting off the tears in my eyes, noticing a mirror sitting on the wall.

She looks so beautiful. Tj, so beautiful. Gorgeous and breathtaking. I wish and hoped she would agree to what he's asking or this will not work.

My beautiful girl. She looks amazing, so effortlessly. A simple hoodie with leggings can make her still look like the most gorgeous girl I've ever laid my eyes on.

I shifted uncomfortably as I wondered why there needed to be a two-way mirror.

Aiden turned his chair around and began looking through a drawer. I tapped nick's leg and slightly nodded towards the direction of the mirror. He noticed and gave a very slight, but noticeable, nod as he grabbed my hand. I watched as he adjusted his gun again. I reached into my bra and pulled out my folded pocket knife, grasping it into my hand and resting them in my lap.

We didn't know what was going to come of this.

Aiden turned back around and handed me an envelope, nothing but my name written in fine black print on the back of it.

"Look it over. Now." He said.

Nick glared at him for the way he spoke to me. I slightly rubbed the side of his leg with mine, an attempt at comfort.

I tore the envelope open and began reading. It was a list of...requirements for if I work for him.

I read over it twice to make sure I read everything correctly. I hesitated as my hand found a pen, tears slowly dropping onto the desk in front of me.
