They both stood on the side walk as they watched a white Toyota corolla passed by. "Let's break up." The boy suddenly said as he shifted the weight between his feet.
Surprised he looked at him, "What?"
"Y'know, lets end this. Take a break," He continued, "We need time apart."
"Is that what you really want?" She questioned, staring down at her worn out converse. There was a long pause before he responded.
"Yeah."
"Weren't you the one who said you wanted to stay by my side forever?" She spoke softly.
"And I will, I'm still going to be here for you."
"As my friend?"
"Yeah."
She hesitated, "No."
"Why not?" He asked.
"We will never be friends. I will be in love with you till it kills me." He stepped towards her but she instantly responded by taking a step back and continued, " I don't understand... To want to end things so suddenly. What did I do?"
"Nothing."
