Ch: 6 - Run Away
"Annika Elson, you've been deemed unfit for society. You're coming with us." A harsh and cold voice announced.
My heart stopped beating. Was this actually happening? No, it's probably just a horrible nightmare...
My worst fears came true when a female safeguard grabbed my arm, breaking me from my state of shock.
Oh no, it's real. Just then I began to freak out. "NO! NO! LET ME GO!" I begged. I pulled back on my arm resisting the lady's grip as much as I possibly could. she pulled me forward matching my strength with ease. (What a strong woman!) I screamed louder than vocal cords should have allowed hoping someone would hear me. I tried kicking the female safeguard but the man with her grabbed my legs. My efforts were totally and completely futile. The male safeguard carried my legs while his partner now carried me by my armpits. Where was Emile? I wanted someone to help me.
Suddenly I started to remember something. I was no longer in the street. I was in a large body of water; a pool, I think. Suddenly I wasn't 17 anymore. I was 6 years old. I was swimming around, kicking with my tiny legs and clinging to a little surfboard-A Barbie smiley face surfboard to be exact- when I spontaneously felt very daring and I decided to release my grip on the surfboard; I wanted to see how well I could swim without it. With all my might, I kept kicking but I couldn't do it. My puny arms and legs just weren't up to the task of keeping my head above water, so I got scared and began to panic. I flailed my arms, but I couldn't stop myself from sinking. Slowly the water seemed to rise and then suddenly swallowed my hips, then my ribs before it continued all the way to my neck. Just as I was about to drown, a pair of strong arms pulled me up and guided me to my surfboard.
"Relax, Margaret." A voice cooed. I raised my head to see my father swimming next to me. He looked younger and the whites of his eyes didn't have that yellow tinge like I remembered them. I could see little stubble of hair on his chin and upper lip, which was strange because my dad always has a clean shaven face since my mom doesn't like it when my dad is hairy. "Remember what I told you about what happens when you panic?" He said. I nodded, remembering. "You don't get nothing done." I replied.
He smiled in approval at my response. My flashback ended and I realize my dad was right. How could I forget not to panic?! My dad's been drilling it in my head for years! I relaxed, thinking calm thoughts as I began to think of an escape. we're in the middle of the street so there is room for me to run but how to escape the safeguards.
I gave swift and powerful kick to the male safeguard's face. My arms were free, so I gave the female safeguard a ferocious punch to her face. They recoiled from the pain and dropped me. My body feel to the ground. Pain shot from my rear end to lower back (probably from the way I landed). Wasting no time, I ran faster then I ever thought I could. Of course they ran after me and they almost caught me. The female safeguard snatched my hair and punched me in the face. It felt like she broke my nose but I didn't stop running. I shoved her out of the way and ripped some of my hair in the process. Were they still chasing me? I couldn't tell, all I knew was that I had to hide somewhere. I couldn't go home because that would be the first place the safeguard would look for me and it was too late to find Emile. I already ran past the pharmacy, and there was no way I was running back. There was only one place I could think of that was close by. Unfortunately that place was my only hope. I ran to the front door of the house and slammed my fist on it repeatedly.
"Open the door please!" I shouted.
A lady with an annoyed look on her face opened the door. "Annika?" She asked. \
"Rosina, please help me. You have to let me in!"
Rosina looked concerned as soon as she realized how serious I was. Rosina moved aside to let me in and locked the door behind me. "Annika what happened to your face? Who did this to you?"
