Kat's POV
It was a long drive home but it's not like I ever noticed, I was so busy in my thoughts. I still couldn't accept the fact that my mother was gone. It just made me wonder what kind of stuff is she into that those men were looking for her. it made me question, was she really the person that I thought she was?

I didn't want to think about that anymore so I starred at the window. Trying to distract myself. After a while that got boring so I turn my attention to the woman sitting in front of me driving. She was tall, skinny, with black hair and piercing blue eyes, she had wrinkles by her eyes indicating her age. She didn't like that old thought probably around her 30s maybe late 35s.

She noticed me staring and I quickly looked away.

"Hey cat why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?"

I didn't want to answer, I didn't really have the energy to talk, I just wanted to be left alone, along with my thoughts, with my loneliness, with my pain.

"OK I get it you don't want to talk, so I'll go first. My name is Adalene, I have a son about your age, his name is Noah. He doesn't really have any friends so he'll be very excited when he sees you. I think you guys will be great friends."

She flashed me a smile and I couldn't help it, she had that one smile that was contagious, the ones that even if you were having the worst of days it will make it just a little bit better. Just a little. So I gave her a little smile. barely noticeable but it was there.

After that she didn't bother asking me anymore questions. Which I was gratefully thankful for.

After a while we arrived to Adalene's house.

"Cat did you hear me? I said we're here"

I was to busy admiring her house I didn't notice the first time she called me. Her house was humongous, I've never seen a house so big before. It was white with big windows and a big entrance gate with the letter 'J'.

We walked through the gates where a security man let us in. Everything felt so big, so foreign. I wasn't used to this kind of life, I was used to living in a small apartment. No securities, no big gates or a big house. Just my mom and I.

"Look, I know this is a big change and I know you're gonna feel out of place these couple of months but just know that I'll be here every step of the way okay?" Adalene  looked at me with so much hurt in her eyes I couldn't help but nod. Who knows maybe I'll like it here.

"Your mom was a great friend of mine, almost like a sister and I promised I'll take care of you, and that's what I'm gonna do. So what do you say we up inside now, yeah?" She smiled down at me and took my hand, opening the door.

There was a lady next to the door when we walk in. She looked very nice, with her soft hazel eyes and beautiful brown hair.

"Welcome back Ms. Johnson, the room is ready as you ordered. Anything else I can help you with?" The lady ladies with a sweet smile on her face.

Adalene shook her head and told her she can leave early today since she won't be needed anymore.

"Nice meeting you, I'll see you around little one" she said before disappearing into a room.

"Noah should be upstairs playing video games or whatever it is boys do these days" I was nervous about meeting Noah. I didn't really get along with people and I got bullied in school, I didn't want to meet him. I just want to be alone forever.

She tired leading me up the stairs but I stood my ground. I didn't want to meet anyone. I just want to cry and cry until there's no more tears left for me to cry.

"Alright, you don't have to meet him now if you don't want to. But you'll have to meet him eventually" her tone was soft and understanding.

Instead she took my hand and lead me to my now new room.

PINK

That's all I saw when I walked in the room. Pink walls, pink stuffed animals, Pink dresses, Pink covers. Pink is my mom's favorite color or should I say was. It used to be mine too but now I can't stand it. It's just another reminder that's moms gone.

"I don't want this room" I ran downstairs stairs, I don't know where I was going but I just kept running.

"CAT!" I heard her scream but I didn't look back. I will never get over the loss of my mom.

She eventually catches up to me since my little legs don't run fast enough and carried me.

"Listen cat, I know it's gonna be hard for you. I get it but please work with me yeah? I know you won't forget your mom but I promised her I'll take care of you and we'll get through this together." She hugged me while I cried my little heart out.

After a while I stopped crying and asked her one thing.

"Can I please get another color for my room?" I was playing with my fingers. I didn't feel comfortable asking but I can't sleep there. Not until it's another color.

Adalene didn't ask any questions instead she said "Sure, what color would you like" looking down at me.

"Black"
