A Staircase to Heaven

Prologue

I came home from school one day. If I can recall, it was the third of March in 2014.

"Mom, when are we going on vacation?" I swear she was getting annoyed from me asking the same question.

"You know this already, we are leaving tonight, Beau."

We finally got there.

"Let's go on a cruise!" A.V suggested. "It's still really early in the day"

So, after we picked up our rental, we went on a cruise.

It's been a few days and the weather is looking nasty, so Avis and I go out to the deck of the boat to watch the storm. Together, we stood at the edge of the boat. Rain was hitting the roof of the covered deck, hard, and waves were crashing along the sides.

"Hey Avis" I said. "Want to play a game?"

"Sure, what game?" Avis asks

"Let's play chicken. Whoever can stand on the edge the longest, without falling in, wins."

"I don't know about this" Avis said, after the game started. "Shouldn't we be wearing life jackets?"

"Shut up Avis, I'm concentrating!" Beau says.

Just then, the wind picked up,and Beau lost his balance and fell in. This is where it all started.
