"Are you okay?" distracting me from my demons the woman opposite me peered at me with intensity. Her tousled tresses, Rosie cheeks, smudged mascara. "Yes. I'm just really tired." Smiling weakly. Her gaze flickered an emotion I couldn't counter. "Lie down with me." doing as I was told, she spooned me, her body heat, her breathing. All observations I wanted to get used to. Clamping my eyes shut in hopes it would calm my thoughts, I slipped into a peaceful sleep.
Waking up, two arms holding my frame. In darkness I hadn't the faintest idea where I was. I got up to relieve myself in the bathroom. Images of the events of the night before hitting my mind full force. I needed to leave.
Unlocking my hotel room, the lamp was on. Scanning the surroundings, I wasn't alone. "Kate, how nice to see you. Why did you run from me earlier? Didn't want me to meet with your 'acquaintance'?" his voice laced with bitterness and... jealousy. Laughing stiffly, I walked in. "Screw you, Dale. You could have fucked up my whole assignment pulling that stunt. My cover story could have been blown. Stay out of this mission, you're just a bounty. You only watch over me. You aren't allowed to get into my assignments, if Matt found out that you almost blew the whole plan you'd be dead within seconds." I threatened. Keeping my anger hidden, he stood.
"Aha, but Kate. You can't get attached to your targets. You've been here for 5 days and you've been to meet the target many times. The Kate we know, and love would not have hesitated to put a bullet through her skull. Why haven't you carried out the hit yet?" His body lingered closer to me, towering towards me. I had to impulse to uppercut this nuisance and take him out instead. "I am not attached to this target. Her men are everywhere. There's intel that we can use, then I will carry the hit out. Do not get involved with this or I will take you out." The arrogance of this man truly baffled me, his croaky laugh ringing through my ears. "If you so much as touch me, you know Matt wouldn't hesitate to punish you. But, you're the boss so whatever you think is best, your highness." Rolling my eyes and tensing my jaw, I walked over to my door. "Thank you, now leave, Dale." Following me, he walked through the door. "Oh, and you will be seeing more of me." with that, he left.
Dropping onto the bed, the events since I came to wales imprinted onto my brain. I hadn't the urge to take Deja out. I, so badly wanted to warn her and tell her the truth as to why I'm here but what's stopping her from putting out a hit on myself? The warm salty drops flowed from my eyes, rolling down onto my face. My hands cupping my head, my mind driving me insane. Finally, the confusion, anger and pain drifted off with me falling into a deep sleep.
Two weeks went by, following lead's and going undercover I had devised a schedule of Deja's daily routine. I sat in a bar where Deja and I met with a Disaronno Sourz in hand, a familiar thick accent hit my ears. My attention snapped over to the voice; Deja and Deja's date. Picking up my drink I hurriedly walked over to a booth in the corner of the room. Her hand intertwined with the mysterious woman next to her. Jealousy reared its head and instantly I was furious. Walking over to the bar the pair had just left I ordered four tequila's, the shock on the barmaid's face was evident but she poured them, nevertheless. Shot after shot, I felt the buzz instantly. Strutting towards them, Deja's attention snapped my way. Her face dropped, looking like a fish out of water she glanced to her date's face which turned into a scowl. "Glad to see that you're one of those chicks that fuck and chuck." I spat, then walking out of the door. The world started to spin as I walked back to my residence for the time being. "Kira?! Kira! Stop!" Ignoring her calling I made it to my hotel, the absence of footsteps concluded the decision that she was no longer following me. Opening my door sloppily I fell in, the alcohol now in full effect. Face planting the carpet in front of me a pair of legs landed in front of me. "Kira?! What the hell are you doing on the floor?" my position remained on the floor. "Go away, I want to be alone." I moaned into the fibers beneath me. A light chuckle escaped her lips as my body was heaved up. I was placed on a bed where I once again fell into a deeper slumber.
