Where My Life Began

The last thing I remembered was the feeling of the shadow-knight pulling me against his chest, but what I didn't expect was to find myself blinded by the sun. Last time I checked, there wasn't sunlight in Tenebris.

As I woke up, I noticed my surroundings. I was no longer shrouded in darkness, but rather shrouded in light. The shadow-knight must have brought us back to the mainland while I was asleep and we must be in what he had made his home. The smell of pancakes wafted into my room and I was drawn out of bed by the smell. I hadn't realized how hungry I really was. During my search for Lucinda, I hadn't taken the time to eat much food, so I was starving.

As I walked down the stairs into the kitchen, I suddenly froze. Standing in front of the stove was a young man with midnight hair and olive skin. He was much taller than me, and he obviously had just taken a shower because his hair was damp and his broad shoulders exposed. The muscles in his back and shoulders flexed and relaxed as he worked about the stove.

"Good morning little angel"

I jumped, I was sure I hadn't made that  much noise coming down the stairs, but he obviously knew I was standing there and his comment assured me that he knew what I was.

"Good morning to you too"

He turned around and smiled at me. At first glance, you would be captivated by his stunning smile, but as I looked at him, I saw the pointed ends of his canine teeth and I saw the danger hidden behind his charming smile. As I stood there, face to face with the most dangerous demon in the seven realms, I didn't feel scared, but instead I felt calm and collected.

"Are you just going to stand there or are you going to come get some food? I assume that's why you came down here anyways"

His voice startled me out of my reverie and I nodded. He was right, I didn't come down here to talk; I came because I hadn't eaten for the past eight days. Either way, I didn't have anything to say to him, so what would we talk about? How his kind killed mine? How I was one of their most wanted targets? How his ruler killed my mother? No, I wanted nothing to do with this man.

We ate in silence for what seemed like hours, until his voice broke the silence.

"The name is Blake Clearwater"

He paused for a moment then cleared his throat and looked up at me.

"Well? The least you could say is thank you"

"Oh uhm, thank you"

I looked up at him and almost jumped out of my seat. Instead of two scarlet eyes staring at me, I was looking at two sapphire spheres staring back at me. His dark hair hung just slightly above his eyes and was tousled to one side of his face.

We finished breakfast in silence and as soon as all the dishes were cleaned up, we went to our separate rooms. Every minute felt like an hour as I stood there, staring out the window. The sky was clear and the grass swayed in the light breeze. It would have been a beautiful day, but it wasn't. I heard them before I saw them, over the hill, the sound of screaming echoed. They were looking for something, someone, and that someone was me.

"What the fuck are you doing?! Get moving!"

I jumped. I hadn't heard Blake come in and his sudden outburst surprised me.

"What do you think you are doing?! You can't just barge into someone's room and command them to move!"

"Well fine, be my guest, you can stay here and die, or you can come with me and live"

"Excuse you, I am fully capable of fighting for myself!"

"Yeah because that got you soo far last time"
