After getting scolded by the principal for walking out of class, the bell signaling the end of school rang and i walked towards the track where i usually sit for 30 minutes just to get some alone time whenever i need it. The gym teacher has a tiny little shed that i sit behind to stay away from everyone on the field at that time. As i walk back there, I hear a branch snap and stop in my tracks. Expecting the worst, I set down my backpack without a sound and walk over to the shed. Standing there waiting for me is the one and only Max. He looks at me with such a pity and I wish i had the chance to slap the look right off his perfect little face. Max gestures to the fence that blocks off the school grounds from the woods and starts walking. As i grab my backpack to follow him, he puts my backpack in the broken window of the shed and takes off towards the center of the woods.
"Where are we going Max?" I demand as I struggle to keep up with his effortless pace
"To the treehouse i built out here as a kid" He replies as he starts to run faster
"SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!" I scream after him as he is only a cloud of dust in front of me as I stop and sit down. "I thought you said you were the fastest girl in the class."
" I did. That's because I am." I reply as i look up to where the voice is coming from and see a small treehouse built on the tree. A ladder swings down and I take the oppertunity to climb it as fast as i can to show i'm the best girl at this school. When i reach the top, He helps me onto the floor of the treehouse and I take a moment to look around.
"Wow. This is really cool."
"I built it with Caden and his friends. They all forgot about it though, so it's mine now." Max replied curtly
"Why did you bring me here?" I asked because i had no idea what the answer would be. He took my hand, stood me up, leaned me against the tree and replied with a smirk on his face,
"So i could do this" And within a second I had no idea who I was and why he was kissing me because he had a girlfriend who was perfect and he shouldn't leave her for someone like me, or so i thought at the time and then the reply of the century came from a boy who deserved everything good in life.
"I can tell you're thinking. Stop. Just relax." And with that I wrapped my arms around his neck and as i stood against the tree, I felt more alive and at peace than i ever had before in my life. His hands traveled from my shoulders down to my hips and moved me from the tree where we both stood to a couch that somehow managed to be held by the treehouse that creaked every time someone stepped. As we lay on the couch kissing, we heard twigs break and laughing and voices from the ground below us. I got up and went over to the hole where the ladder had dropped down from and at the bottom of the tree was Caden and Max's girlfriend, lying together on a blanket, kissing just like Max and i were doing moments earlier on the couch. I closed the hatch to the treehouse to prevent max from seeing and went back over to the couch where he was sitting and he handed me a book. It had a book cover on it and wanting to keep the suspense he told me,
"Don't open the book until you get home. check in the back part of the cover and you will find a paper. Meet me there at 9 tonight. and with that he climbed out the window and down the ladder in the back of the treehouse, only to find his best friend and girlfriend making out. I wish he didn't have to see that but at the same time, I'm glad he did.
