That morning, after Draco had dressed in his new robes and had gotten ready for the day, he walked into the Great Hall and saw a sight that shocked him.
Both Blaise and Pansy were wearing Gryffindor robes and laughing with Harry and his friends.
Draco walked right past them and sat down at the Slytherin table by himself. Why should he have to abandon his true House just because it's under repair?
Hermione noticed that Draco was sitting alone and nudged Harry with her elbow.
"Why isn't Malfoy sitting with us?" She asked.
Both Ron and Harry looked over at Draco, who was currently pushing his food around on his plate.
Ron shrugged. "Don't know? Must be a pride thing. Thinks he's too good to sit with us Gryffindors despite being one himself now."
"No." Harry disagreed. "I think it's something else." He got up and walked over to his roommate.
"Good morning, Malfoy." He greeted, sitting across from him. "Why don't you come join your fellow Gryffindors for breakfast?"
Draco put his fork down and gave Harry a glare. "First of all," He said, standing up and leaning over the table so he could look Harry in the eyes. "Let's get one thing straight. I am not a Gryffindor. I will never be a Gryffindor. These robes don't change anything. Once a Slytherin, always a Slytherin. Nothing will change that. Got it?"
"Oh I know." Harry assured him. "I knew you were a snake through and through the first day we met; when the sorting hat didn't even need to touch your head to tell you where you belonged. I'm just saying that, for the time being, you are an honorary Gryffindor. So you had better start acting like it." He got up and motioned for Draco to follow him. "Now come on. Your friends have been waiting to see you."
Draco sighed, picked up his plate, and walked with Harry to the Gryffindor table. Pansy and Blaise moved over to make room for their unofficial leader and offered him caring smiles. The smiles alone were enough to make Draco sick.
Suddenly, from the Professor's table, came the sound of Dumbledore's voice.
"Good morning, students." He greeted. "I do hope that the Slytherin students are adjusting well to their new Houses." He noticed Draco looking aloof. "Well, most of you anyways. Now then, I'm sure you have all noticed that you have traded your Slytherin robes for ones more befitting of your new Houses. Do not worry though. You are not abandoning Slytherin by any means. You are all simply fitting in better with your new Houses to help you adjust. After breakfast the day shall carry on as usual. You will be attending the same classes you have been since the start of the school year. That is all." He sat back down in his seat and started up a conversation with the elderly woman on his right; the head of the Gryffindor house Professor McGonagall.
Harry turned away from Dumbledore and looked at Draco, who was still not bothering to talk to his fellow Gryffindors. As Harry sighed at the sight he started to wonder if Draco would ever be able to fit in to Gryffindor.
