Trapped (Bucky Barnes x Steve Rogers)

Warning: This one-shot is incredibly sad. It also contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.  You have been warned (Backs away like the Lorax)...

He opened his eyes to only see brightness. A world of white. His last memory was calling out to Steve, then collapsing. Where was he? Where was everyone else?

He only had to look around a little to see a young man- more like a teenager, on the ground. The boy wiped his tears away with his suit sleeve. His suit was red and black and Bucky could have sworn he had seen it somewhere.

Bucky stood up and kneeled in front of the weeping boy, holding onto his shoulder. "Kid...". The teen looked up at the soldier, his eyes red and puffy.

"W-Where are we? Where's Mr. Stark? And my Aunt? And Ned? Where are they?" The teen asked, weakly like he had already lost hope.

Bucky took in a deep breath. "Listen, kid. I'll get you back home. I promise." He pauses as he realised that he might have given the poor boy false hope. "I'm Bucky. You're the spider-man right?"

The teenager nodded softly. "My real name is Peter Parker. And thanks. B-but..... but I know that we are probably here forever."

Bucky tucked his hair behind his ear. "I know someone who won't stop at anything to get us back." He sighed thinking of the man who used to be this scrawny little boy but is now a Captain and hopefully will be his savior.

"Wherever we are, kid, I'll make sure you stay safe. That is something I can defiantly promise you."

Minutes faded into hours which faded into days to weeks to months. It felt like the two were there for an eternity. Everyday, Peter would pace around whatever place there were in and weep. He would constantly talk to Bucky about his Aunt, his best friend Ned, and most importantly, Tony Stark. Bucky never knew that Stark had it in him to actually create such a relationship with a boy but somehow he did.

"And he saved me when I almost drowned! This huge bird guy was trying to kill me and he dropped me into a lake but Mr. Stark saved me! Well not really. He wasn't there but he still saved me! And then he let me help with Thanos and made me an actual Avenger! I am so excited to work alongside him! Well... I was"

Bucky always listened with a close ear to Peter's stories. And sometimes he would tell the teenager his own stories. That he fought in war alongside Steve.

Steve.

Bucky talked about him a lot. He talked about how he used to be this tiny boy who had big dreams and how his dreams actually came true. He only needed to have hope.

Peter reminded Bucky of Steve. Bucky sighed, knowing that he might not be able to see Steve for a while.

A few more days passed with the same old schedule until something shook the ground.

"Bucky...?" Peter stood up and took his ground. Not knowing what was about to happen, he deployed his suit, the mask covering his sandy brown hair and freckled face.

Bucky raised his fists as a crack in the room appeared and two figures entered the room.

Bucky, not seeing their faces, turned to look at Peter, whose face lit up instantly.

"Mr. Stark!"

Peter ran forward to the man in red and gold armor and embraced him in a hug.

"Hey kid" Tony said with a smile, hugging Peter back tightly. Bucky was so caught up in the reunion that he has yet to notice the person beside Tony.

"Hi Bucky."

"Steve."

Bucky smiled warmly as he walked/ran to embrace Steve in a hug. Peter pulled off his mask and everyone could see that his eyes were red and puffy and tears rolled down his cheeks. He couldn't stop hugging his colleague, thankful that he was rescued.

Bucky let go of the hug and looked at Steve, who looked quite emotional himself.

"I missed you so much, Buck. I'm sorry it took so long." Steve said solemnly.

"Nevermind how long it took, Steve. I'm just glad you're here. Honestly I would be completely lost without you. I love you"

"I love you too Bucky"
