"Those who should live, die. And those who should die, live."

Green, Shigotsu Park

***

[Host, do you know that saying?]

What? Didn't he die? Why the heck do people keep bothering him even after his death?! Can't he be left alone?!

The young man, Asato Kawamura opened his eyes to see... nothing. The whole room was white without any door or window.

"Psychiatric...Hospital?"

So he didn't die. He was locked up because of his insanity?

[Host-]

Asato jumped out of fear when he heard a voice and screamed, "You motherfucker don't scare me like that! Your mum is a motherfucker! Your whole family is a motherfucker! You bunch of motherfucker! No wonder you are a motherfucker! My heart is fragile! I am a fragile person!"

[...] System is innocent. Please don't insult system like that.

After he yelled fearfully, Asato calmed down and put his hand on his heart, it was still beating. He looked up and saw a creature that he didn't have words to describe. He didn't know if it was an animal or a human. The creature looked like a head of a stuffed teddy bear, like a keychain a child would attach to their school bag.

The eyes both blinked and Asato sighed. Indeed, he was insane, no wonder he was locked up.

[Host, are you alright?]

Asato looked at the fluffy white creature and shrugged since he didn't have anything to do he might as well talk to him. It wasn't like people were going to believe him if he said he wasn't insane anymore. "Yes?"

[Host, I am System 423.]

Asato applauded which perplexed the system.

Oh, what a great and vivid imagination I have, I should write a song about it!

[Host, you are actually not dead.]

I know baby, I'm actually in an asylum, no need to comfort me.

[You are here because you were chosen by God.]

What if I don't believe in God?

[God has chosen you because you are the saddest person on earth.]

...Okay, this is definitely the reality.

Why would he dream of God if he doesn't believe in one? That fluffy thing isn't from his head.

Asato sighed in relief, he wasn't crazy and locked in an asylum, fortunately.

[Host do you know that saying?] The white-chain key asked again.

"What about it?" Asato tilted his head cluelessly. He remembered that distant and yet sorrowful voice that woke him up. Though those words seemed familiar, he didn't see any logical connective between those words and the situation he was currently in.

[The God of ours took pity on those who had powerlessly died, the unfortunate lost and wandered soul. So, God decided to give them a second chance.]

"Huh, okay. So why I am here?" Asato yawned, clearly annoyed.

[People don't naturally change easily. Even if they were given a second chance, it doesn't mean they will do well in their second life, because one's nature can't change. If they were nice then they would always be nice. They could even forgive those who hurt them even if they had changed. For the reason that their heart will always remember the emotions they went through.]
