Song: Michael Schulte - You'll Be Okay
Waking up after drinking almost two bottles of wine truly made my head spin like a roulette wheel in Vegas. Damn, if I knew the hangover would be this intense, I would have never listened to Celine's suggestion. Yeah, Celine was that kind of friend who wouldn't stop asking you to come to a party just to get wasted. Well, she had a reason, though. She claimed I was too caught up in studying whilst we were in uni. Hence, after graduation, she cajoled me to come to her brother's project celebration party at some exclusive club last night.
Celine's older brother, Gabriel, was the CEO of their family company, Underwood Corporation. Gabriel was a strict person, yet he knew how to have fun and throw a great party. Underwood Corporation was a large company specialised in the garment industry. Their leader, Gabriel Underwood had succeeded in maintaining and developing the company after Mr Anthony Underwood, Gabriel and Celine's father, passed away three years ago.
Celine had never been the same since her father's death. She became quiet and wild, making Gabriel frustrated each time he had to clean up his little sister's mess when she caused a scene. Last time, Celine was found unconscious in one of club's private room and almost got herself raped by a random guy. Fortunately, Gabriel always had his bodyguards following her around. Gabriel was pissed―scratch that, furious, of his sister and grounded her to stay at home for a month without money, car, and any other facilities. That random guy? Of course, Gabriel took good care of him and sent him to jail. He filed an indictment for sexual assault, namely attempted rape.
I, on the other hand, was an ordinary girl trying to get a job and stable life. Frankly, Gabriel had offered a good position in his company. His ulterior reason to hire me―definitely to get Celine under control and take care of his only sister whilst he was not around. However promising and beneficial Gabriel's offer was, I declined it. I didn't want to be pitied―scratch that, I didn't need empathy from other people. I would stand up for myself and get a job by my own effort.
My phone went off and I answered it without looking at the caller ID. "Love, are you going for an interview today?" Right off the bat, I knew it was Celine with her raspy morning voice.
"Yes. I'm getting ready as you speak," I replied whilst applying a pink-peach lipstick.
"I'll get you there. Wait for me." Just as I was about to reply, Celine ended the call. Her house was only three blocks away from my flat. Celine was the type who didn't wait for other's opinion and would tell everyone to screw themselves when she was angry and boy, she was always in the mood to get angry. Every time she threw rude comments or daft advises, I wanted to be angry at her, really, but I just couldn't bring myself to do so.
I combed my medium-long dark brown hair once again and looked in the mirror. Despite having a hangover this morning, I seemed pretty sober. Well, that was a relief. I needed to be sober in an interview. I couldn't let this chance slip away. I was utterly shocked when I got an email from Armstrong Company yesterday morning. I did apply for their company, however, it never crossed my mind that they would consider fresh graduate for a Personal Assistant position, let alone for their CEO.
The Human Resources department must have mistaken me for somebody else. Perhaps, they had some kind of brain error, bad mood, or lack of concentration, thus they didn't realise that they chose me instead. I felt sorry for anyone who selected me, though. He or she would probably get fired as soon as I finished my interview. This job required at least three years of experience in the related field, and here I was―a fresh graduate without work experience and had a hangover from partying hard last night. I had promised myself that I wouldn't get drunk again if I got this job. God, I hoped I wouldn't mess this up.
