central park was busy for a monday morning. it was a common meeting place for lonely souls like our protagonist, rocket bokan. there was not a cloud in the sky and the endless stretch of lawn was splattered with resting human bodies. i know i'm supposed to be here right now, rocket thought to herself. i was called here for a reason. what if she had decided to go to school that day? what if at six in the morning she had decided to not wake up and plan to visit the park? would her life be any different?
with the earphones still in her ears and hands stuffed in her pockets, rocket trudged across the small bridge over a pond. even having no music on but still appearing as though she were listening to something made her look like she was busy. that was exactly what she wanted. she stopped midway on the bridge and looked down at her reflection in the water. rocket knew the reason she was there, at that spot, at that very moment. i need to find something. something is missing in my life and i'm here to look for it. the thoughts that formed in her mind appeared like glowing embers that were there and then gone. what was it she needed to find so badly?
the trees on the other side of the pond were just a one big blur of red, orange, and yellow. could she make it there? rocket felt something stirring inside her that urged her to move, to take action. there was something calling out to her and she needed to find it.. the colors of autumn burned like small flames on the other side of the pond and she wanted to grab it, feel its heat and not pull her hand back from fear. experience and fulfillment were urging her on, to put one foot in front of the other - this is what she needed. to move forward. rocket speeded up her walking pace, the edge of the pond swiftly moving past in the corner of her eye..the fire on the other side kept beckoning.
