(a/n: this was written as a speech for my English class so sorry if some of this doesn't seem believable or stupid, even though its true (but still stupid). this piece involves a lot of articles, i put a screenshot of one of the most unbelievable ones up top. anyways, i hope you enjoy!)

Today I will be talking to you about why I think the government need to take action and start building free homeless shelters. I understand that the shelters may be expensive to build, but the government is already wasting money on stupid things like £19,000 spent by the council in the UK on hiring a 'motivational magician', when they could be using that money to make a difference.

Did you know that In the UK, the council are giving fines of up to £1,000 and one way train tickets to the homeless in hope that they will leave. Doing this doesn't stop the problem; it only moves it to somewhere else. Instead of handing out train tickets and fines that the homeless obviously cannot pay, we should be creating more affordable options.

There are currently 105,237 homeless people in Australia, 17% are under 12, 25% are aboriginal and Torres Strait islander and 30% are born overseas. How sad is that! If this is the statistics in Australia, think about how bad it must be for the rest of the world. Can you not see the pain and anguish the government are putting all of these people through? This number is just a miniscule example of how torturing they are. And it's not just our government that is treating these amazing human beings so badly, it's us too! More than half of the people in UK (54%) say they always or almost always do nothing when they see a homeless person. That is just ridiculous! Instead of helping these people, we are shunning them. We're ignoring them. Treating them like absolute rubbish! This poor treatment has gotten so bad that people play Alvin and the chipmunk's music at bus stations to scare them away! Seriously, have you heard that monstrosity? I wouldn't even want my little sisters to listen to that, let alone full grown adults. The amount of torturous actions that have been displayed towards the homeless is sickening.

Four in 10 Australians think that homeless people are 'lazy freeloaders', 'stupid failures' or 'not working hard enough'. How conceited do you have to be, to class the homeless as 'freeloaders' or 'failures'? These days, people have no respect for one another, just pure distain. This is not right! In Australia, finding affordable housing is a huge challenge. How do you expect someone who has nothing to afford this? It's just not possible.

Domestic violence and a lack of affordable housing, as well as poor mental health, family breakdown, debt, poverty, leaving state care, or leaving prison, are all major contributors towards homelessness. Being homeless is not a choice. People are starving and sleeping rough for reasons that they can't avoid. People don't choose to be abused, raped, or lose all their money. People don't choose to be homeless. Homelessness if something forced onto people, their choices are stolen from them. They have no choice but to sleep rough or couch surf.

Imagine if it was you out there. If it was you who was struggling, just to get one meal. Having bottles thrown at you, people beating you black and blue, to the point of falling unconscious. That would suck, wouldn't it? Then how come you allow this to happen to others? I may not have been homeless myself, but some of my best friends have. The way that they talk about it makes me feel like absolute crap. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. So, why let it happen? You can help the people who live on the streets have a home again. You can make a difference. You can make a change.

People say the one person can't change the world. And that may be true, but you can still change someone's world.

(a/n: again, sorry if its crap, but a new update is coming soon! i hope you all enjoyed)
