It was time.
Alice had picked me up for the fight and then after giving my father some stupid excuse, Jacob took Bella and me up to the camp where it was freezing. It also dawned on me while we were up here that it might not have made a difference on where we were?
I mean, why couldn't we just put our scent all over the forest and then went to a coffee shop until this was over? I have other things to do than take a camping trip in the middle of nowhere when it was snowing. At this point, I'd rather die.
"Hey," Bella said coming next to me as I overlooked the fighting area. The cliff where we were staying showed the clearing perfectly and I decided to look at it before it became littered with dead bodies. "Jacob told me about your fight with Paul."
I scoffed but refused to look at her. "And what does he know? Nothing, Bella. He only knows Paul side of it which was probably cursing me out," I informed her in irritation. If my best friend takes his side, I might just lose it.
"Actually, he broke down in Sam's arms. I'd stay clear of the wolves for a while. They don't seem too happy with you right now," she cautioned me which earned a look. Before I said anything, I looked over her shoulder to see Jacob glaring at me.
I locked eyes with him, showing him that I am not scared of him at all. "I'm sorry, but I could care less, Bella. I'd rather make sure that I am okay first. I come before anyone, before any boy whether they love me or not," I clearly stated, not to just her, but to Jacob and Edward who were both listening in to what I had to say.
"You've decided."
She was in disbelief, but I could tell that she was a little happy for me. I shifted my eyes back to her and gave her a sad smile. "I've decided," I told her trying to keep my tears back. With my decision came a lot of hard choices. Bella pulled me into a hug which once again allowed me to look over her shoulder.
Jacob was confused, Edward had a smile.
You knew. Alice had a vision, didn't she?
I broadcasted that thought hoping he would hear it. Edward just nodded as Bella pulled me tighter and I did the same thing. I was going to miss this.
"It is getting dark, let's try to get you two some sleep," Edward said making us break apart. Bella had a glisten of tears in her eyes, and so did I. We were best friends, and all of this was hard on us, but we will get through it.
Jacob grabbed my arm before I could get into the tent. "You hurt Paul one more time and -" I couldn't help but cut him off by laughing.
"And what? You'll kill me? You can't," I hissed, "It's the law remember." I knew I was being a little cocky, but I just couldn't help it. Jacob harshly let go of my arm before running off into the woods, no doubt to become a wolf.
Instead of worrying about it, I walked into the tent where Bella and I were going to sleep. We put on more layers before cuddling together in our sleeping bags. It was a harsh night and I barely got sleep. The two of us were freezing and somehow drifted from one another.
