I swim back. There's a boy. I sort of know him, but not really. I've seen him in the hallways at school before, but that's it.
"So uh... you're moving, right?" I ask.
"No," the boy says, making it clear that what I just asked was a stupid question. He said that in a sarcastic tone of voice, for anyone that's slow to pick up on that stuff.
"Sorry."
He looks at me in question. "Why are you apologizing?"
I sigh. I'm tired of that question. I apologize because I feel the need to, like I do something wrong. I shake my head. "Never mind."
He shrugs. "Well, anyways. I'm Levin, you're... Leah, right?" I nod, surprised he knows my name. "Do you know why this is happening?" he asks.
Yes, I definitely do. "No, I don't," I groan. We're both asking stupid questions now. He shrugs again, and bends down to collect some wood. "Uh, what're you doing?" He ignores me. Rude. "Fine, I'll just go for a walk," I say, and turn around, as he mumbles something.
Actually though, why are we here?
And why are we the only ones here?
