I eventually left Matts house and walked back home. My mom still wasn't home. I undressed and washed off in a warm shower. Then I went to the living room to watch a movie.
After flipping through the various selections of Netflix I settled on Mean Girls, that movie never got old. Halfway through the movie my phone started ringing. I paused the movie and walked towards my room to grab my phone.
When I looked down at the name it was unknown. The number started with 909 and it said it was in California. I was about to shrug it off and think of it as a wrong number, but my voicemail ringtone went off. I opened my phone up quickly and went strait to my voicemail.
Before I had finished listening to the message I had dropped my phone.
Realizing what was happening I threw on my hoodie and nike free runs again. I picked up my phone and dashed out my door. The only place I could think of going was Matts. I was so anxious that I ran, and I was there in less than a minute.
I went around the side of his house and knocked three times on his window before entering.
He wasn't in his room but he quickly appeared since he recognized the three knocks.
"Whoa what's up? Why are you here and panting?" He asked
"Here listen." I say holding out my phone and pressing play on the voicemail.
'Hi Peyton this is Eddie from Cali Ventura. I called because there is something very important I need to talk to you about. California Allstars Ventura is creating a new coed team. This would be a very elite team and we want you on it. This of course means you have a lot to think about and consider. please call me back when you get a chance, I want to discuss details with you and your parents formally. Talk to you soon Peyton, bye'
I watch Matt's face as his expression changes.
"Pey-" he started to say before his phone rang. He picked his phone up from his desk and examined the number before turning the phone to me and asking "is this the number that called you?"
I nodded yes and he set his phone down.
"Guess I will just wait for the voicemail too"
There was silence for a few minutes before I said "well what do we do?"
"I don't know"
"Well do you want to go?" I asked
"I don't know, I just don't know anything for sure right now."
"I wonder who else got the call."
"From cheetahs? probably just us. why would he bring all the cheetahs out there? it wouldn't make sense."
"Yeah, but maybe there is another person." I said
"We would have to move out there ya know.. if we go." he randomly says
"Yeah. You would leave a lot of people behind."
"Well you too Pey." he states
"Just you." I say "but if you come I won't be leaving anyone"
"Pey what about your mom? or Cheetahs?" he asks.
"My mom wouldn't notice because she doesn't care about me and cheetahs, well they don't even know my name."
"So you are going?" he asks again
"Well yes. Actually no. Wait, yeah. yeah I'm going. Why not?"
"I don't know if I can Pey." He says.
"Then don't Matt." I say walking towards the window. He just watched me. He almost seemed mad I was leaving again, so I paused and just stood there looking at the ground.
"MATT! DINNER IS WAITING FOR YOU!" I all of the sudden hear. It must be Matt's dad. I look back at Matt frantically.
"Uhh IM COMING." Matt says.
I start going out the window but before I'm out Matts door opens and his dad walks in.
"Look Peyton you don't have to climb out the window just come eat dinner with us." He says calmly.
Stunned and slightly afraid I just look at both of the Smith boys and the hop back from the window into Matt's room. His dad walks out and I just turn to Matt.
"I thought they didn't know I come over? and don't they hate me because of my mom and stuff?" I ask.
"We'll not exactly, they have known you come over for awhile."
"What?! Why didn't you tell me? I could have been coming through the front door all this time?" I said.
"Yeah... but I thought you liked being able to come over when ever so I never told you."
I looked at him blankly and then walked out of his room to his kitchen. There was a perfect dinner set and his two perfect parents sat there at opposite ends of the table. Mrs.Smith smiles at me and I sit down. Matt followed. I take a deep breath and prepare myself to ask some questions and to answer a lot more.
