I woke up as usual, the smell of Chinese takeout seeping through the cracks of my door. I grabbed aimlessly for my phone on my bed, clocking it to check the time.
7:01 am
Yawning, I stood up, getting dressed for another long day at school.

After I finished getting ready I walked past the living room and kitchen of the small apartment me and my father live in. I was right, he came home late and got Chinese again. He was passed out on the couch as usual, his work uniform still on. I scoffed, he hadn't asked me if I wanted anything for dinner again. But what's new? He hadn't asked me in years.

I rolled my eyes and slipped my shoes on, picking my car keys off of the table. I shut the tv off since he left it on and escaped the little run down apartment building in my car.

"Hey! Looked who it is!"
"Can it Demetri." I said jokingly, sliding in next to Eli. I had been best friends with Eli since we were five, practically conjoined at the hip. Then, once we reached middle school Demetri stepped in, we were the nerd trio ever since.
"How's it going south paw?" Eli joked quietly, I rolled my eyes and stole an Oreo off his plate. He called me that ever since I started wrestling in sixth grade.

"The usual, dad was MIA until late last night. At least I get to see Nicco on Thursday." I said, shrugging. He nodded solemnly, knowing it was just how it was. Nicco was my little brother, he lived with my grandmother.

We sat in silence for a while, tapping aimlessly on our phones before it was interrupted.

"Is it cool if I sit here?" Someone asked, making us all snap our heads up. It was a boy with black hair and tan skin, he must of been new. I knew most of the people at the school, even just by having seen them around.

"Ooh, Sorry, table is really blowing up right now," Demetri said sarcastically, making me glare at him playfully.
"I can put you on the wait list but it's probably next semester at the earliest."

"Okay-" the boy said turning to leave.
"No!" I said laughing, he turned back. He was obviously confused.
"He means take a seat. Sarcasm is Demetri's first language." I said chuckling, sliding over a seat so he could sit between me and Eli. I was closer to Eli then anyone, so I could see he was obviously a bit skeptical about the new kid.

He sat, sighing a bit.
"Miguel-" he introduced.
"Demetri. This is Eli, he's a man of few words. And this pretty young lady over here is (Name). She's a girl of many words- so please- for all our sakes- don't get her started." He said, earning a small punch from me.

We all turned our heads as the other trio walked in. The popular girls. I scoffed at them, making eye contact with Eli. He obviously was also annoyed by them.

"Dude, don't torture yourself. Those are the rich girls." Demetri said, he had noticed Miguel eyeing them, the giggling of the three in the distance. I felt my glance go down to my plate.
"Once upon a time they almost recruited me, until they realized that I live in the slums." I said refusing to look at them.

"Do you ever talk to them?" Miguel asked us. I almost laughed at that.
"Oh, Yeah, all the time. We hang out after school, make out, give each other hand jobs. Eli here's the homecoming king. Gets laid more then anyone! Isn't that right, Eli?" Demetri said, making Eli smirk. I rolled my eyes, and apparently so did Miguel.

"Talk to them? You realize what table you're sitting at right?" Demetri said, making me frown.
"They purposely avoid us like we're the plague." I added in.
"You've purposely signed away all hopes of loosing your virginity before college." Demetri finished, making me nod jokingly.

"Oh shit. Yasmines looking at us." Eli said quietly, making me look over at him.
"Probably just making fun of me." He mumbled. I smile sympathetically at him.
"I don't think she's making fun of you. I mean just because they're hot doesn't mean they're mean." Miguel said, making me laugh.

"They keyed my car last month because I accidentally stepped on Yasmine's Prada sandals. Once they even anonymously texted my Ex I that I was pregnant. Yasmine's relentless." I said, cringing. Granted, my cars trashed as it is. But it was icing on the cake. That car was the last thing my mom ever gave me.

"I don't care if Yasmine's the meanest girl at school. Id kill all three of you to get her to spit in my face." Demetri said, making me cringe.
"Yeah, well if you don't make a move you'll never have a shot with her." Miguel said. My eyes widened.

"True, but I'll also never suffer a humiliating rejection. I'm at peace with my depression. Last thing I need is to be suicidal." Demetri said.

We all watched as Miguel stood. I cringed and looked over to Eli.
"Oh no..."
"What are you doing?"

"Striking first." Miguel answered. I tried stopping him but he ignored me.

"Oh shit! I hope we don't get hit by the shrapnel." Demetri said, making me nod.

We watched like it was a reality tv show as he got chased away by the jocks.
"So how'd it go?" Demetri asked sarcastically.
"I told you. Relentless." I said sipping my chocolate milk.

We spent the rest of the lunch period telling him stories of us when we were younger. How once I broke my ankle because Eli tried teaching me how to ride a bike before he even knew. Miguel turned out to be pretty cool.

"Hey Eli." I said as he entered my car. We both were going to hang out at the diner like we sometimes did after school.
"Hey." He said smiling. He never showed his usual self at school unless he was with me. He is actually a very funny and outgoing person, as long as he comfortable around you.

We sat at our usual booth, ordering two chocolate milkshakes.

"So, hows Nicco?" He asked, making me shrug.
"He's good. Grandma treats him well." I said, referring to my grandmother. Ever since my mom died two years ago my grandma got custody of my six year old brother. I however was unlucky to stay with my dead beat dad. He could barely support himself. Let alone us both.

"What about your job- the new one with Mr. LaRusso?" He asked me, making me roll my eyes.
"Good, all I do is clean cars and run around coffee and paper work." I say, he nodded to show he knew what I was talking about.

"Hopefully I'll save enough to get my own place." I said. He smiled sadly.

"What about you? What do you think of the new kid?" I asked, making him make a funny face. I laughed as he shook his head.

"I think he's gonna change things in our little group."
