I'd been three days in a row since I even saw a sign of my father, probably ended up in a hole somewhere. I attempted to clean the house a bit. Things didn't really pick up at the dealership and we hadn't started karate lessons yet.

It was the dead of night, and I was sleeping in my bed when I heard a bump at my front door. I stayed frozen in my bed. This never happened.

The door sounded like it bust open, I backed up to the wall, pulling my phone out.

To Eli: there's someone in my house and I don't think it's my dad

I sent the text, walking over to my door and locked it. I pressed my ear against the door, listening. My heart was beating so fast it felt like it was about to explode.

From Eli: holy crap are you ok!?

To Eli: I think so

The door knob shook, and just before it could be slammed open I heard my father voice at the end of the hallway. I squished myself into a corner and put my hand over my mouth to silence my loud breaths.

"Just what the hell are you doing!?" He yelled, there was shuffling.
"Where's the money you owe us!?" A angry voice yelled, my eyes widened.
"Yeah man!" A second voice echoed. My hands shook in fear as Eli spammed my phone with worried text messages.

There was a lot of thudding and crashing, I sunk to the floor and held my ears. My breath was erratic. It was terrifying.

About five minutes later it stopped, and footsteps ran out the front door. I took a deep breath and unlocked the door, gasping at the sight. Everything was knocked over and smashed, the door wide open. On the floor was my father, beat up. I panicked and bent down, picking up his wrist and feeling it. He was alive. I knew I couldn't take him to the hospital so I set him on the couch, cleaning his cuts and putting an ice pack over his head.

I decided hat was good enough. The hospital would ask questions, and despite me and my fathers broken relationship I didn't want him in jail- or me in a foster home far from my friends.

I picked up my phone and car keys and ran out of my house, getting in my car. I knew I couldn't stay in the house. It felt like the walls were closing in on me. Last thing I needed was to have a panic attack.

I drove for a while, my hands shaking. Pulling over on an empty side street I dialed the first phone number I could.

I jumped when there was a tap on my window, I unlocked the door.

"(Name), are you alright!?" Eli asked me. I shook my head, stepping out of the car and hugging him. He patted my back.
"What happened?" He asked, I sniffles into his shoulder.

"A bunch of men came and trashed the place and beat on my dad. They came for the rent money he owed." I said shakily. He looks worried as he nodded, trying to calm me down. Eventually he did, and I was breathing normal.

"Maybe you shouldn't stay there for a while?" He suggested, we sat on the edge of a sidewalk in front of the minimart. He had bought me a slushee. I shook my head.

"I have enough for the apartment I was looking at to pay the down payment. I'm moving out. The lady said she'll make an exception for me. I was buying time so I could have a few months rent payed for in advance but-" I hiccuped, Eli gave me a quick hug. He was seriously like a brother to me.

"It's what's best."

The next day was a Sunday, and I had packed all my stuff into my cars trunk. I drove to the new apartment, pulling into a spot in front of the apartment complex. My father wasn't there when I got back to pack my things.

"Wow." I said smiling. It was so much better then my old one. I began unpacking my things and lugging the boxes into the house.

"(Name)?!" Someone said, making me stop. The box almost fell out of my arms since he startled me.
"Hey Miguel! What are you doing here?" I asked, entering my apartment and setting the box down. He followed me in.
"I live in the apartment next to this one. Hey- why are you bringing boxes in here?" He asked.

"I'm moving in." I said, raising an eyebrow,
"With your dad?" He asked me, I suddenly bit my lip in sadness.
"No. Alone." I said, he looked surprised.
"Oh."

"Well this is a cool surprise. I could start driving you to school in the morning if you want." I said, he nodded happily.
"Sure!"

It was the next day at lunch when things really changed. I was happy again for the first time in a week. I finally felt safe.

We all turned our head when there was a racket behind us. Sam, Mr.LaRussos daughter was fighting with Kyler. She threw a tray onto the floor.

We were carrying our lunch to the tables when this happened.

"Hey Guys, you know that bill board with that big ass dick on it, I guess Sam takes after her dad!" Kyler yelled. The whole room oohed and laughed. I was never close to Sam, but no one deserved public embarrassment from Kyler.

It looked like Sam was about to punch him when Miguel stowed in.
"Hey Kyler!" He yelled, handing me his tray.

"Why didn't you shut the hell up and stop being such an asshole?" Miguel asked, getting into his face.

"You want another beat down 'rhea?" Kyler asked pushing him. I watched from afar.

"I'm ready for you lame ass karate this time." Kyler said.
"It's not lame ass karate." Miguel hissed, watching Kyler throw a punch. He blocked it.

"It's Cobra Kai."

I watched in shock as he single handed it took down Kyler and his friends.

"Yeah Miguel!" I yelled, cheering him on. Eli laughed at him from beside me, proud of his friend.
