What do I enjoy hearing first thing is the morning? That’s easy, it’s the birds chirping. But no, instead I get the screaming of my best friend Suzanne. That’s really great, right?

My eyes snap open, and my head gets fuzzy. I hear Suzanne screaming from the outside… but she’s not inside. Not yet that is.

I’m in my bedroom, but I’m not alone. I see Eric, still asleep, nearly fallen onto the floor and I blush.

What happened last night? I think and shake my head. Oh right, I had my mating ceremony. I was chosen with Eric and we had dinner… after that we joined the party and I… I don’t remember much of what happened after that. I think as I put together last night’s events.

I take a quick glance at Eric and notice he’s shirtless, as shirt is on the floor. I lean against the wall as my face turns red. W-we didn’t do anything… did we… I think. Shaking my head, I sigh. No… of course not.

“Annie! Annie! Annie!” I hear Suzanne yell as she slams the door open.

Startled I scream, and then sigh and relief.

“Hey Annie,” Suzanne yells and runs inside the room. “I’ve got important things to tell you!”

I moan. “Shut up,” I mutter, taking my leaf pillow and pressing it to my face.

“Your mate’s about to fall off the bed you know,” I hear Suzanne say and remove the pillow.

I watch her as she shakes him away. “Hey, Eric, get up.” She said and pokes his face.

Eric’s eyes open and he groans, beginning to sit up. “What’s going on?” he mumbles. “Why is it so loud? Can’t a guy get any decent sleep?”

I giggle. “Suzanne here has important things to tell me so I’ll be going out for a bit.” I say and slide off the bed from the end so I don’t push him off.

“Whatever,” he says and yawns. “I’m going back to sleep,” he says and falls asleep again, his brown hair falling over his eyes.

I roll my eyes and walk in my closet and change out of the dress I wore the night before, and put on a casual one.

“Hurry up slow poke,” Suzanne says looking over as I slip on the dress.

“Shut up,” I say fixing it so it feels right.

“Good, you’re ready. Let’s go,” she says and grabs my arm, dragging me out of my room.

When we get outside, I squint. It’s bright outside, and it’s probably around noon.

“You know I’m still barefoot,” I mumble and yawn.

“Yeah, sorry about that,” Suzanne says and smiles. “I just have something really important to tell you.”

I nod, “Okay, what is it?”

She showed me her arm, and I tilt my head.

“What’s so important with your arm?” I ask.

“The mark, it’s gone. The mark I got when I made my wish.” Suzanne explains.

          “Meaning,” I ask and yawn.

“It means I can finally tell you the wish I made!” She says and smiles.

“Oh… Oh!” I say, realizing what she said, and I laugh. “Hah, sorry I’m still half asleep. I have like… no concept of reality,” I say and sigh.

She grins. “It’s fine.” She says and puts her hands behind her back. “So, do you want to know what I wished for?”

I nod. “You bet!” I say. “Well, only if you’re okay with it though, I don’t want to pressure you into anything.”

Suzanne shook her head and smiled. “No, you deserve to know it. I mean, it did come true last night so I can tell everyone now, but you deserve to know more than anyone else.”

I tilt my head and smile. “Okay, whatever that means.” I say and grin.

          “I gave up my wish.”

And at that I look at Suzanne. “What?” I say. She looks awkward, as she bites her lip and fiddles with her fingers. Her antennas are slouched down that you can hardly see them as they hide behind her head. “What do you mean by that? You told me you made a wish, how could you give it up?” I asked shocked.

“You didn’t let me finish,” Suzanne then says. “I gave it up as in I didn’t use it for my own selfish reasons, I uh, I used it on you.”

I point to myself, “On me? How? I mean, I didn’t think you could do that.”

Suzanne nods. “Yeah, on my birthday I wished that Eric would be chosen as your mate.”

I look at her, completely shocked. “Why would you… why would you even think of doing that?” I ask.

“Because you’re my best friend,” she quietly says, looking onto the ground.

“Yeah but… You could have wished for anything in the world and yet you use it on me. You can never make a wish again you know.” I say.

Suzanne laughs and looks at me, eyes closed, with her hands folded, against her chest. “Oh course I know that,” she says, smiling, tears staining her eyes.

I take a step back, and sigh. “Hey, don’t cry,” I say. “I was just a little shocked.” I pull her into a hug. “Thank you, though.”

Suzanne wraps her arms around her body. “I know, I could tell by your face,” she laughs. “I’m not sure why I cried, I guess I just thought you got mad.”

I smile, and leave her grip. “Nah,” I say and pat her head. “I could never get mad at you.”

          She smiles. “I know.”

“You are the best,” I say and put my hands behind my back and lean forward.

Suzanne pokes my nose. “Oh, I know that,” she says and smiles a large smile.

“A thought just occurred to me,” I then announce, standing up straight.

Suzanne tilts her head. “What is it?” she asks.

“How about we go visit Hunter and tell him about last night’s ceremony?” I ask.

Suzanne laughs. “Yes, let’s do that!”

I clap my hands together. “Yay,” I say happily.

“And to make things more exciting, let’s have Eric come along,” Suzanne says and winks.

I laugh, “Alright, whatever you want.”

“Awesome!” she exclaims and takes my hands. “Let’s go and wake him up and tell him!”

“Alright,” I say, and this time I’m the one to drag Suzanne inside.
