The alarm shrieked making Amelia stir under her bed covers. Stretching out an arm, she pressed the snooze button but the alarm continued to bleep.

"Ok I get it," Amelia said from under her covers, pressing the button once again, making no difference to the blaring alarm, "what the..." throwing off her blanket, she grabbed the alarm and flung it across the room. It hit the wall and fell to the floor... finally silent. Oscar, Amelia's faithful Labrador, cocked his head upwards, awake and alert, "extra 5 minutes, that was all!" Amelia huffed, throwing her head back and accidently hitting her headboard, "OW!" she yelled.

"Mel!" Yelled Ruby, Amelia's best friend and housemate, as she barged into Amelia's room, "Have you seen the bloody time?"

"No, my alarm had an accident," Amelia replied from under her covers. Oscar looked up at a Ruby, his tongue out and tail wagging.

"Why is your alarm dead on the floor?" Ruby asked, frowning at the broken pieces across the room.

"The same reason you will be if you don't get out," Amelia replied, her voice slightly muffled. Running a perfectly manicured hand through her blond hair, Ruby tried to stop herself from smiling at her best friend's short temper.

"Seems like someone doesn't realise she has an exam today!" Ruby said in an all knowing tone, as she ruffled Oscar's fur. He barked in delight and got up trying to lick Ruby's hand, "I'm sure I remember someone telling me to wake them up so they could revise..."

"Oh crap!" Amelia cried, throwing the covers off and sitting up with her brown curls bouncing everywhere. She had bugged Ruby last night to make sure she woke her up early enough to revise for her exam but, once again, Amelia was late.

"Ooo so it is you," Ruby said sarcastically, as she sashayed towards the window, opening up the curtains, "It stinks in here," she added scrunching up her face as she threw open the window. Amelia narrowed her eyes in reply and jumped out of bed.

For the past year and a half, since they had started University, Amelia and Ruby had been living in the little place together. In the beginning they decided to stay in the University dorms but later realised they'd rather their own place. Amelia wasn't a people person and nor was she exactly patient enough to deal with drunken students 3am in the morning. Ruby on the other hand, she was a social bird and had the blessed ability to befriend pretty much anything with legs.

"Why didn't you wake me up earlier?" Amelia said, shoving on a pair of jeans over her shorts.

"Don't you dare, my bloody throat hurts from yelling your name," Ruby said throwing Amelia her T-shirt, "Hurry up, I'll be waiting outside and don't forget to lock up," She added, as she jumped down the stairs, with Oscar bounding after her.

Amelia nodded as she threw the t-shirt on top of her vest and tied up her hair, whilst quickly running into the bathroom to brush her teeth. The bathroom floor felt ice cold beneath her burning feet. That seemed to happen a lot nowadays, her body felt like it was on fire every time she woke up. Regardless of it being December, she could walk out in nothing and the cold didn't bothered her.

Brushing her teeth, she splashed her face and shoved in her contacts, staring into the mirror, she blinked vigorously and watched as the contacts settled onto her green pupils.

Every morning she would put on her contacts and without fail, wonder whether it was her father with the green eyes or her mother. Scoffing, she reminded herself she would never know and there was no point in killing herself in trying to find out.

Feeling a familiar sadness creep into her chest, she shook her head, and reminded herself, as she did every morning, that she was ok.

"Done, done, done!" She hooted as she grabbed her bag, "damn where's my phone," she muttered to herself. Dragging back her blanket, she found her mattress soaked, "For Gods sake, again!"

Where Amelia had been lying, her bed was completely wet. For the past few weeks, Amelia had been having major night sweats; she'd wake up in the mornings with her bed completely soaked. Pulling up her tshirt, she checked the back of her vest to, once again, find it drenched. Sighing out of frustration, she checked under her bed for her phone.

"Amelia Louis, you are actually taking the complete mick!" Ruby shouted from downstairs, "it's 9 already, the exam is in 2 hours, you wont have enough time to revise!"

"I'm coming!" Amelia replied, giving up searching for her phone she closed her bedroom window and ran downstairs and out the door.

"Lovely of you to join me," Ruby said locking the door. Amelia mumbled something incoherent, "From the look on your face, it seems like you've wet the bed again," Ruby said as they made their way to the library.

"Haha, funny," Amelia said shoving a curl away from her face behind her ear, saying no more on the matter.

Ruby glanced at Amelia's uneasy expression and pretended to ignore it, as she had been doing for the past few weeks. Ruby had no doubt noticed her best friend's strange behaviour; she was lot angrier than usual. However, Ruby was not aware of any obvious reason of why she would be upset. Yes, Amelia had always made it difficult for anyone to get to know her, considering her background it was understandable, but after a while of being friends, she did eventually trust Ruby. Though, Ruby knew that Amelia kept some parts to herself, regardless of how close they were.

"I need a hot chocolate," Ruby said linking her arm through Amelias.

"You need a lot more than that love," Amelia replied, smiling for the first time that morning.

The girls walked up the hill leading to their campus, not noticing the hooded figure, on a motorbike, watching them from afar.

He pulled down his hood, revealing his dark brown hair, rubbing his chin he smiled.

He had found her.
