"If you're having a bad day, catch a wave." -Frosty Hesson

The cold rain. The harsh wind. The unrelentless crashing waves. All of these things were coming at me full force as I paddled out the one summer that changed everything, and all I noticed was h e r.

She was laying flat on her board staring up at the sky, with an empty expression. Eventually she sat up as a set began to form.

I sat from afar watching, as she began to paddle feircly to attempt to ride the monster wave that lay in front of her. But that day was stormy and the waves were rough, and she fell forward as the massive slab of water toppled over her and her board. I flinched, as a fellow surfer, I knew that must have hurt- a lot.

I anxiously waited for the mystery girl to resurface, but all I saw was her worn, dinged up board pop up the surface, unfortunatly snapped in half. But no mystery girl. How long has she been under there?

Worried, I paddled over to her board, and picked it up. I struggled to stay on my board and hold on to mystery girls as another wave crashed. Then there she was, gasping and coughing as she swam in circles, looking for her board. I quickly paddled over to her and pulled her on to my board, still gasping and coughing.

"Are you okay?'' I screamed over the roar of the water. "Im fine" she quickly dismissed, catching her breath. Even though she was oxygen deprived, coughing, and panicking, she had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. "Where's my board?'' but I didnt hear her over the storm. "What? I didnt hear you!'' I screamed once again. ''Wheres my board!'' "Oh! Here'' I handed her the broken board, with a sympathetic face. "Fuck!'' she screamed. "look, dont beat yourself up over it. We've all had a bad wipeout.'' I said in a pathetic attempt to comfort this girl that I dont even know. ''I know. I know. But that was my only board." I gave an insincere apology. "Its okay. It wasnt your fault. Im just clumsy." She sighed. Oh, you're anything but. I thought.

Here I was, laying belly down on this beautiful dudes board, hacking up saltwater and gasping for air. What a lovely first impression.

I couldn't help but stare at him. He had dirty blonde hair, with stormy blue eyes that stared back at me.

I realized what I was doing and looked away, blushing. "Here, hold on to my leash and your board, ill paddle us in."

I nodded a okay and did what he said.

We were on the shore in no time, the dude was ripped. I sat on the sand, still coughing salt water out of my lungs. He sat next to me, patting my back.

"Im fine, Im fine. Thanks, for all that back there." I said. "No problem. Who wouldn't go to a beautiful drowning girls rescue." I think my heart skipped a beat.

"One, I wasn't drowning. Two, a bit cocky, huh?" I retorted. "Well its the truth" he smirked. I couldn't help but blush. I happen to do that alot.

"My names Will" he said. "Will Reed." He stretched out his hand for me to take. "Kai" he helped me up and I shook his hand. "Kai Grey."

"What a lovely name. Would you care to get a snow cone with me?" he said hopefully. "What a strange proposition. Usually its coffee guys ask a girl they just met to." I said sarcastically while wiping the sand off me. "Coffees bitter and boring and too adultish. Snow Cones are way better." He grinned. I couldn't help laugh at how childish he sounded.

"Why I would love to Mr. Reed."
