Running Late

When I awoke on a bright sunny day, I looked around my room and seen my younger sister lying sprawled out on her bed. She was always the type to move around a lot in her sleep, as she could never seem to get very comfy. I, on the other hand, could sleep easily and peacefully, unless something strange approached our dorm. Yes, we were living in a dorm, not a proper home.

We were living at the Talented Arts High School in Narakendo Summerton, just like some of the other students were. There were only a few students at the school that were actually knew: Sophia Stone, Shadow Stone, Maria Rose, Jason William and Kikoro Mitasushi. All of us were different in our own ways, and had been abandoned by our families for being so. I had been abandoned by my family - along with my sister - when the had found out she too was different like me. If my sister had been normal, they were willing to forget about my differences and treat me like I was normal. But seeing as she too was different, they abandoned us on the streets, where the Head Teacher - Aaron Robbins - found us, and offered us somewhere to stay. Ever since that day, we have always been grateful to him and have always helped around the school as much as we could.

My name is Serena-Jane Adams, and even though my name ma seem strange, I don't like it. My sister has a nicer name than me, and sometimes I wish I was her. Chinatsu Adams. I liked that name a lot better, but seeing as I was stuck with the name I had, I always told anyone who asked what my name was that it was simply, Serena Adams, and would just leave out the 'Jane' part of my name. However, my sister being the sneaky, annoying sister she was, would always tell people about me, and tell them my actual name, just to annoy me. She knew I hated my name, and she would always call me by my full name, instead of the name I preferred.

Both of us had made a lot of friends during out time at the high school. We had been here slightly more than 12 years, as our family hadn't known about Chinatsu's differences until they awoke within her at the age of 5. I was just barely a year older than her, but sometimes she would act like the older sibling, and I knew that she actually should've been, even though she wasn't.

*********

This day I woke her up by pulling the covers out from underneath her, making her fall onto the cold floor with a thud. She woke with a yelp and looked up at me with a dark glare. She was clearly pissed off at me, and it just made me laugh.
"What's the matter sis?" I questioned her through my own laughter.
"You bitch." She cursed as she got up and rubbed her back in pain. Clearly she had hit the ground rather hard. It just made me laugh even more.
"You know you love me sis. I mean, we have to look after each other now. Right?" I said to her with a smile upon my face, as I was trying to forget about the horrible parents we once had and we will never see again, just because to them we are freaks.
"Yeah." She muttered as I hugged her. Her purple hair seemed like it could do with a hair-cut, but I knew she wouldn't let anyone touch her hair, and preferred it the mess that it was. She didn't care if it grew too long, that was just the way she liked it. However, she always had the tendency to at least try fix her hair so that her light blue highlights at least appeared evenly throughout her hair.

*********

The only thing that would make people know we were related, without saying anything to them was the fact that both our eyes were a golden colour, and that we both had purple in our hair somewhere. We weren't really the same either. I was a wolf, whereas Chinatsu was half wolf and half vampire, but for some reason we couldn't figure out why that was. Even though our parents didn't know it, they both had deep within their DNA the hint of vampire and wolf DNA within their blood.

*********

As we both got ready to head to class, there was a knock at our dorm door. Only a few people knew what dorm we lived in, and we exchanged a glance trying to figure out who it may have been. I forgot that I could sense presences briefly, as we just shrugged and realised we knew too many people in the school to try and figure out who it could have been. Chintasu headed into the bathroom to finish getting dressed, as I headed to the door in my nightdress and school jeans, to see who was there.

When I opened the door I was greeted with demonic red eyes, dark brown hair and a cheeky grin. The boy was wearing jeans and a black jacket, with a red top underneath. He was the same age as me, although slightly taller. He was a kind guy and could get along with anyone he met, seeing as when we first met him, we became friends instantly.
"Hey Serena." He smiled. "You ready to get to school?"
"Does it look like I am?" I questioned him as to me it seemed rather obvious that I wasn't ready to go.
He just chuckled to himself. "No, it doesn't." He smiled and blinked a bit curious. "Why not get ready?" He returned the question, wondering what could possibly be taking so long as class was about to start in five minutes.
"Chinatsu is hogging the bathroom." I smirked as I made sure I spoke loud enough for her to hear.
"HEY!" She complained, as she rushed out of the bathroom wearing her camo top, jeans and her favourite leather jacket. She had a strange liking for leather. "I am not!" She pouted as she finally noticed Jason at the door. "Hey." She waved to him.
"Hey." He chuckled as he turned to leave. "I'll see you girls at class then." And with that he left.
"Hurry up Serena!" Chinatsu giggled as she was getting her Dr Martin shoes on. As soon as they were on, she grabbed her bag and ran out the door, leaving me to rush to get myself ready and catch up with them both.

**********

I was slightly late to class that morning considering Chinatsu had been hogging the bathroom for nearly twenty minutes and wouldn't wake when the alarm went off about thirty minutes prior. She had the tendency to do that to me if I woke her by pulling the sheets from under her. Luckily for me, the teacher of our first class was also running late for once, so when they actually arrived they hadn't realised that i had been late to my class, as I was already sitting in my seat next to the window beside Jason.
