Chapter 1:

As I stumbled towards the lunch room, I quickly stopped. The feeling that I was being watched seemed to creep up on me. I turned around slowly. There was nothing there. Perhaps the feeling was just a part of my wild imagination. I shrugged and turned around once again.

This time, my eyes widened. The sight before me was something you didn't often see when your walking in a hallway in the middle of a school deep in New York City. There were two strangers, both standing next to eachother a couple feet away from me. One was a girl and the other was a boy. The girl had dark, long, black hair and pale skin. Her small frame was covered in a dark red dress. From my angle, her eyes looked like bright red rubies ringed in what seemed like black eye liner. As she shifted from one side to another, I spotted two wings as black ,as black as the night, folded against her black. I had to admit that despite her demonic appearance, she looked much more beautiful than I could ever be. Darkness radiated off of her in a way that frightened me a bit.

The boy next to her seemed to be the exact opposite of her. He had blonde curly hair and light skin, not too pale but not too dark either. His broad shoulders and flawless stature made him seem like a god. Apart from that, he had on a white t-shirt and jeans. If he didn't have wings, he might've almost looked human. His bright blue eyes looked at me with a soft expression that made me want to melt. He had a small smirk on his face as he looked at me.

"I'm guessing she's the one?" The boy suddenly said in a beautiful, angelic, yet manly voice.

"Well duh, she can see us right? You obviously know that normal mortals cannot see or hear us, do you not?" The girl responded in a low, dark voice. It sounded almost like she was hissing the words out.

"Be nice, Umbra, you know what Welkin said about patience. 'It is the key to life!'" As he said the world life, his wings spread out. They were as white as snow and extended from one side of the hallway to the other. They glowed brightly, just as his newly formed smile did. One of the boy's wings began wrapping itself around Umbra's body, but she pushed it away so gently that I almost gasped at the suprising kindess of it.

"And tell me, Lucian, why do you listen to Welkin? He's old and probably has so many things in mind that are driving him crazy. Get over it, we are in the middle of a -" Umbra stopped and looked at me as if just remembering that I was listening. Lucian folded his wings back against his back and scratched his head, leaving a cute nervous look on his face.

"Sorry, we almost forgot that you have no idea who we are nor why we are here...." He said.

"Yea, I guess we should 'cut to the chase' as you mortals say..." Umbra said shortly after.

"She's not fully mortal remember? It's the reason why we're here in the first place!" Lucian responded as he frowned.

"Whatever...she's been living with-"

"Sorry to interrupt, but I don't appreciate people talking in front of me as if I weren't actually here. I, for one, have no idea what you guys are or what you guys are talking about but I do wish for an explaination...." I cut Umbra off, speaking for the first time. Suprisingly, my voice was filled with some honesty and defiance that Umbra looked at me with an angered expression that looked like she wanted to kill me. Her expression was as if she wasn't used to being cut off. She flipped her hair from one side to another before speaking.

"Look girl, Armaita, we only came here because the council thinks your not a full mortal. They believe you to be the angel of truth, since you've never told a lie in your life. I don't know if you are, but honestly I don't care. I just came here because I was forced to. Ok? Oh and next time you try to interrupt me, I assure you that there will be something more than an explaination coming from my mouth..." Umbra said in a fierce tone.

I stayed silent, not because of her threat but because of what she had said before and the fact that she knew my name. What was the council and Angel of truth? Then there was that thing about not ever telling a lie in my life. I hadn't really come to think about it, but I knew it was true. I had only thought about it once when i didn't do my homework in the fifth grade and couldn't lie about it. At the time, I had thought that it was only because I had wanted to keep my integrity. But now, realization hit me in the face with full force. Ever since I was born, not a single lie had escaped my mouth. I hadn't thought it possible for a human to have full honesty. But then again, here were two winged strangers saying I wasn't fully human.

Questions began swimming back and forth through my head, but one question became prominent in my head: What the hell is going on and what does it have to do with me?

Next to Umbra, Lucian began to shake his head.

"Sorry- Arma, if I may call you that, ignore Umbra. She has a bad temper and she's just not used to being in the company of well- a mortal. So you see, she's a bit tense right now. Anyway, we need to you to come with us, only then can you get all the answers you want...." Lucian said slowly.

"Wait wh-what?! No way ! I don't even know you people, I mean-things or whatever y-you are! " I stuttered.

"This aint' optional, girl, you're coming with us NOW." Umbra seemed furious. Maybe calling them things had not been such a good idea after all.

The last thing I heard was a snapping of fingers and the fluttering of wings before my vision blurred and I fell into the darkness of unconciousness.
