CHAPTER 2 (Alec's P.O.V)

Blending in was no problem at all. The four of us got in the house we had bought. Away from people's prying eyes. As soon as we reached our place, we divided up our rooms and settled in. Next, when it was past midnight, we all went hunting. We went hunting out of town, and almost out of borders of Alaska.

(THE NEXT MORNING)

"Students, this Alec Volturi and Jane Volturi." Our biology teacher introduced us to the class. And without any surprise, I noticed how every pair of human eyes was staring at me and Jane. Staring with awe, almost gawking. Our looks were hard to look away from. jane smiled at the class, and without doubt, every one of them was dazzled by that smile. I didn't smile, because, my eyes had caught something out of place, something out of ordinary.

Every pair of eyes in the room was looking at us.

Every pair.

All.

Except one.

I targeted all my attention to that one person who was not mesmerized by our beauty and uncanny good looks. This was behaviour I had never seen in human before. Humans were always bound to be awed just at the sight of them. It happened everywhere, every time, without exception.

Why was there an exception now?

I barely heard my teacher when he told me and Jane to take our seats. But, having the ability to hear everything, I managed to process what the teacher said, even with all his attention lying with the uninterested human. I went and took an empty seat never taking my eyes off the human. I suddenly had the feeling that this could be the human Aro was looking for. Luckily for me, there was an empty seat right beside that human.

I swung my book bag off my shoulders and took my seat. I suddenly realized that staring at a particular human like that would only grow suspicion, I hastily looked away, and looked at the teacher instead, who had already started his lecture. When the teacher turnd towards the board, I spared a glance at Jane, who was sitting a column away from me and two seats in front. She turned and gave me a quizzical look.

So, she had noticed.

I quickly blinked. Jane gave a stiff nod and turned away. She understood what I meant with that single blink. I would explain everything later.

Looking away from Jane, my eyes fell on the human beside me. I could see the face which was at the moment hidden by a curtain of long, staright, shiny, black hair. She kept looking down and scribbling in her notebook. All of the other students, once or twice spared a glance at me and Jane.

Her? This human girld didn't spare a glance at us at all. Not even when we first came. That was it. Just one look. Then she looked down at her notes again, as thought there was nothing different about me and Jane. she was still not sparing a glance at either of us, even though I was sitting right beside her.

I could hear the whispers going on in the classroom as clearly as though they were spoken at a normal hearing range. The whispers were the same, about me and Jane. Boring... Lame...

"...Dude! Check her out! We got some smoking walking into the class today..."

"...Maybe I could go introduce myself to her after class. See if I can make her get lost..."

"...Maybe she would need some help with something. I could definitely offer my assistance..."

I was sure Jane could hear them loud and clear, too. I could see her lips twiching ever so slightly. This part was always fun. I could hear the things being said me, too.

"...Look at him. He's so gorgeous..."

"...I'm so breaking up with my boyfriend today and talking to him..."

"...Lucky, bitch that Jackson! Getting to sit beside him. She's not even talking to him. What a waste!..."

Well, at least I got her name. Jackson. She's just not normal. She didn't even spare me a second glance! And that's something I never saw happen before. This sort of behaviour was definitely not of a normal human.

I'd have to talk to her, figure things out. She could be what we're looking for. She could also be not. I'd have to keep an eye on her and let Jane keep her eyes open for other possibilities. This one, I'd handle on my own.

"Hey." I called, smiling.

She turned, That was when I got the full view of her face. Big, ocean blue eyes, long eye lashes, a small, staright nose, thin set of pink lips and pale cheeks, that instantly became a little bit red at the sight of me.

"Hi, I'm Alec. I thought I might introduce myself to you." i said, thrusting my hand forward. She didn't take it.

"I already know who you are. I'm Kylie Jackson." She said, and then took my hand. Even if she felt the chill of my cold skin, she didn't say anything. She quickly pulled her hand away. Bell rang couple of minutes later, and she walked out of class. I followed her.

"Well, I really don't know how to get to my next class." I said. "And I thought you could help me out with that."

"What do you have next?" She asked, opening her locker.

"Math, classroom 6." I replied, as I watched her take some book from her locker, and put them in her book bag.

"Yeah, I can help you out with that." Kylie said. "I'm headed to the same direction."

"You got math, too?" I asked, and Kylie shut her locker.

"Yup." She replied shortly and started walking. I followed her, unable to understand her. She wasn't behaving the way she was supposed to. She was supposed to behave like those girls whispering about me, following me around, insulting any girl I would talk to, like they were insulting Kylie right then. But she wasn't like that. And all I wanted to find out was why she was so different to my presence. Why wasn't it affecting her at all?

I quietly walked behind her towards classroom 6. I saw Jane on the way looking pointedly at me. She didn't have the same classes as me. I had promised to tell her why I behaved so weirdly in the class. And Jane was waiting for that explanation.

"I think your sister wants to talk to you." Kylie said suddenly. I started.

"What?" I said. I couldn't have heard wrong. But, how could she know Jane wanted to talk to me?

"You sister looks like she wants to talk to you." Kylie repeated.

"What makes you say that?" I wondered. She shrugged.

"She's looking at you." As soon as she said that, Jane looked away. By the looks of it, I could guess that Jane was confused too.

"I can wait here." Kylie offered.

I hesitated this time. My mind was complitely full.

"Thanks." I said. "I'll be right back." I went to Jane. Jane gave me a look that she always gave me when she wanted explanations.

"I don't know." I said in a barely audible whisper. "She was the only one in class who didn't spare a glance at us twice. It struck me as odd. And something else apart from that also strikes me as odd about her. I can't really put a finger on it. So I'll find out more about her. She could the one we're looking for. But she might not be. So it's better not to waste both of our time behind her. You keep looking for other people that might strike as what Aro wanted. I'll keep an eye on her and also see if anyone else matches out interests."

"How did she know I wanted to talk to you"' Jane asked.

"Oddness again." I said. "It's either that or she's very observant. So it could be nothing. See you later."

Jane nodded.

With that, I walked away from her and joined Kylie again and we walked towards classroom 6. Kylie didn't try to make conversations. And me, being too busy studying Kylie didn't strike up any conversation either.
