I wake up to the sound of my alarm going off *4:00*. I roll over and shut it off. It's the last day of summer before my senior year and I do not want to end on a lazy note. I have always loved mornings, and having a routine has made living by myself so much easier to handle.
I get up out of bed and head downstairs to make myself a nice simple breakfast. A quick omelet and a simple strawberry smoothie. I sit down and eat. I make sure that I am not forgetting any of today's events. It will be my last day at the bakery so I have to be sure to say goodbye to everyone, and then I will meet up with my best friend Monochromicorn, or MC for short, so that we can finally spend a bit of time together this summer. And lastly, I will come home and prep for said school tomorrow.
At precisely 5:30 I leave the house dressed in my uniform for work, a plain black t-shirt, jeans, and my choice of non-slip shoes (so naturally I went with my pink vans high tops). My apron in hand, I walk to the bakery. I arrive at 5:45, just a bit early since the bakery doesn't open until 8 and most everyone else gets here closer to 6:30. Over the past few summers, and other busy times of the year I have been such a help around here that the Trunks don't mind me opening and getting the day started on my own. I do all the prep work and necessary things while waiting for Mr. Trunks to arrive and tell me the specials of the day. The specials aren't really planned out around here, it's honestly whatever Trunks feels like would be a good thing to have that day. Today ended up being my famous strawberry cream cheese turnovers. I had developed them a couple of years ago in this very kitchen early in the morning one day. Today they are our special in honor of my starting my last year of school. It is very sweet of Trunks to be so thoughtful of me.
All of our regular customers come in and I tell them each that I'll be gone to school for a while and that I will see them all again around Halloween for our school festival (in which I cook a lot of pastries for). As I get ready to clock out for the day Trunks pulls me aside and gives me a gift.
"Now don't open it till you get home, I want it to be a special surprise for you," he tells me in private. He always had something weird up his sleeve and was good for a joke.
I look questioningly at the box, Trunks was like my grandfather, always giving me gifts and calling me whippersnapper just to annoy me in a friendly way, but I loved him all the same. "Thank you so much Trunks, it means the world to me that you even got me anything."
"Oh, quit your rambling and enjoy the last bit of summer, I'll see you soon." He shoved me out of the store and that was it.
I walk home to change out of my work gross work clothes, throw them in the wash along with the rest of this weeks laundry before changing into a white V-neck and light pink skinny jeans while keeping the darker pink vans on from work. Before leaving to go get lunch with MC I open the gift Trunks got me. Inside was a small pink collar with a little bell on it. I sat and stared at for a while utterly confused before I checked the time and decided it was time to go eat with my best friend.
I once again walked, heading this time though to the Little Tea Place. One of my favorite spots in the whole world. I went ahead inside and found my small booth in the corner. The waitress came over and took my order, vanilla chai tea and a black tea for MC. I waited for not even two more minutes before he showed up across the table from me. It's how he's always been very quiet, and suddenly there, but always punctual.
We looked at each other for a moment and then I asked 'How was your summer?'
'It was good, didn't do a whole lot other than hanging out with cake'
I chuckled a little out loud, 'Oh, okay so that's why you could never come over.'
'Whatever, you never even asked me over.'
We were both trying to hold back from laughing out loud and looking like lunatics. We use morse code to talk because MC is very self-conscious about his voice, and I already knew code from long ago so I taught him and we've been best buds ever since. I finally replied, 'Okay, you win. It was my fault. I was quite busy with work, and I figured out a couple of new recipes I want to try out.'
'Well you know I'm always here to eat.' MC just smiled knowingly
I was startled when the waitress appeared,"Here are your drinks sir."
"Thank you oh so very much my lady," I replied out loud.
MC decides now was a good time to jest at me, 'Ever polite as a prince'
"Is there anything else I can get you?" The waitress asked us.
I speak and morse code at the same time telling MC, 'I have to be, you know she hates it when I'm anything but.' While the waitress hears, "No thank you, we are good for the moment."
She walks away while MC and I drink our tea and talk about how summer went. It is nice relaxing with MC. I feel I don't get to do it much. I am very involved in my studies, and work, and keeping up appearances. It can be exhausting, but MC is a good buddy to relax with.
After our lunch MC goes to spend the evening with Cake at the river for their final night of freedom. I head home to make sure I have everything ready for tomorrow.
Arriving home to what I thought was going to be a peaceful night, I find the door unlocked and pull my knife out of my sock before I head inside. Taking years of self-defense and mixed martial arts has taught me to be very good in combat, even though I remain rather small and not able to gain much muscle.
I hear a noise in the kitchen and walk in to find Fiona finishing up setting up a food and water bowl.
I let out a huge sigh of relief, "Fiona, why hello. I wasn't expecting to see you here. You are always welcome though of course. Would you like something to eat?," I swiftly put my knife away and start talking in my princely manner heading toward the cabinets.
"Glob it Gumball, MC was supposed to keep you a little longer."
"Why is that?" I try to peer around her, "And may I ask why there is a food dish on my floor?"
"Well Trunks wanted to get you something really special for all the time you put in this summer, so he asked Cake and me what to get you... I know you've been wanting a cat for a while now... so I told him that and he got you this little guy." She opens the box I now see on the counter and pulls out a white cat that fits in one of her hands.
Only it's not white, it only looks that way, she goes on to explain, "This baby has a rare disease making her fur a very pale pink in places and she'll stay rather small, and Trunks said that he had to get it for you."
"Oh my goodness, you are the most precious thing I have ever seen!" I am beyond ecstatic that they got me... "Fiona, pardon my question, but what is her name?"
"Well, we decided to let you name her." Fiona looked like she was ready to start bouncing off the walls and honestly so was I. This is the best gift I have ever gotten.
I reach over to where I left the collar that Trunks had gotten me and put it around her neck and decided, "I will name her in time, thank you again." I reach to give Fiona a hug and she returns it.
We spend a while watching me new little princess get used to the new house until Fiona finally tells me, "Well Gummy, I got to get going, I will see you tomorrow."
I show her out the door, and head to my room. With the cat at my feet, I try to be careful, but she almost doesn't seem to need me to be careful, she is always out of the way of my feet just in time. I pick out my clothes for tomorrow and set all my stuff out.
Finally, I lay down and go to sleep with my new baby curled up very small on my chest.
