The Thief

52 2 2

   There once lived and old man

Who lieth still, and could not stand.

   But a thief he was within himself

For he stole a heart, and nothing else.

   'Alas,' he stated in utter despair

'This heart, 'tis mine, and only fair!'

And though his own heart was lined with stone

He sought to place it upon a throne.

   No guilt, no shame, for what he's done

He turns his gaze to the setting sun.

'All I ask is this I keep.' He begins to say.

Yet, deep down, he knows he lost the way.

   Beneath his conscience, a comfort forms

Though his heart doth sadly mourn.

He begins to yawn and shake his head;

But then spots movement, at the end of his bed.

   'It is not His, 'tis yours.' A voice then whispers.

The eeriness of the voice, made the man shiver.

'What do you want with me? Why are you here?'

Just then, a figure appears, draped in his fear.

   'Do you not know where eternity doth lie?'

The cloaked figure says, as he lets out a sigh.

Then the old man realized, the fact he did deny.

He knew that sooner than later, he was going to die.

     The figure looks up gravely, and then slowly speaks;

'Do you not know where you heart truly seeks?'

The man heaves himself upright, and readies his fist.

He lets out a yell: 'I am tired of this!'

   The figure then says, with a gleam in his eye,

'I have come to take your heart and soul. Why not ask why?'

The man falls back, his struggle in vain.

He knew not anything this talk could gain.

   The figure continues, and pulls out a sword,

'Do you not care about what you cannot afford?'

I have come to take you with me, my friend.

You are mine, not His, and have followed my trend.'

   The dawn doth break where the old man lay.

Deep in eternal sleep, and his soul away.

Never to wake up in this life again,

His relationship with Him, he failed to amend.

   A good note to keep, after this story you read,

Without Christ's help, you can never succeed.

Most think they can make it by doing a deed;

But fail to trust Christ with their heart and their soul.

And if only the searched with their mind to find,

That alas, you can be free indeed.
