''Are you originally from Knysna?'
'Yes, I am.'
'Born and raised English?'
'My father is Afrikaans, but my mother wanted me to have English as a first language. And I don't have a problem with that.'
With an expression unreadable to Mia Baker, she continued ogling the woman and tried creating a poker face of her own. The long blonde locks, lashes topped with mascara and flashy jewelry laced upon her fingers and around her neck, didn't go unnoticed by the young girl aspiring to become a famous movie-star.
Mia Baker refused to settle for a career as a lawyer like her parents wished for her. Recently finishing her matric she took it upon herself to walk down a lonely road following her dream, cutting out people from her life who's plan was to stop her. Playing a different role each time stepping onto the stage or in front of the camera; stepping into the world of another person. Nothing else brought Mia Baker the same kind of joy.
'Alright,' the interviewer said with slight a grin. 'Even with the lack of experience you have, I do consider hiring you. Your look is exactly what we need for Morning Coffee.'
Mia struggled to hide her enthusiasm. It felt so unreal and impossible. After all the drama with her family caused over her choice of a career and the credit card issue, something was finally going right.
'If you're comfortable with this,' she began. 'We'd like to hire you as an extra in the upcoming series. You'll start out small, maybe be seen two or three times an episode but that's just the start. Show us you've got potential and we'll upgrade you to a higher role.'
'You're kidding,' breathed the eighteen year old, leaned over and trying to wrap her head around all of the information. 'You're giving me the job?'
'If you're ready to move to Cape Town permanently, then yes. This is where Morning Coffee will be shot. Everything depends on you now, Mia. It's an opportunity of a lifetime.'
'Well, of course! It won't be a problem. I'm totally willing.' Mia replied with glee, her heart picking up speed. There was so much excitement in the months that lay ahead; new people to be met, amazing places to be seen. Mia Baker was one very lucky girl.
'Give me a day or two to sort out the paperwork first. Then we'll get the ball rolling,'
A dream come true, a new and exciting future set into place. 'Thank you so, so much. You won't regret your decision. I promise to give it my all - no matter what challenges I might face.'
'I'm glad to hear it, Mia. I'm looking forward to seeing more of you, and your talents.'
