Cape Town. What a lovely place it appeared to be! Sandy beaches and a busy town with so much things to occupy your time with, it was almost surreal. Walking into a city so wonderful with people so enthusiastic going about their everyday lives. More magical and beautiful than anything she could have dreamed about. Mia was ready to spend her money left, right and center without bearing the consequences in mind. Every colourful stall next to the road, infamous store and amusement park attracted her attention. She wanted to experience all these things; live her life like she never was allowed to before.
In the far distance she could spot the Green Point Stadium where most of South Africa's rugby matches are held. She craned her neck craned to get a better view but the many buildings and colourful people blocked her sight. She comforted herself with the thought that soon she'll be able to travel right to the very famous stadium and experience it up close.
Freedom never tasted so exquisite, it never offered her so much fun. On her walk through China Town, she bought fabulous pieces of clothing and jewelry and couldn't wait to try them on. She ate lunch at Steers and indulged in one of their famous burgers, fries and a bar-one shake.
'It is your duty as a Christian to eat healthy for you are an example to others. There's no space for junk food in the temple of the Holy Spirit. Over my dead body you're spending your allowance on a piece of garbage!'
For a second, Mia let the fatty burger fall down in the take-away box, glancing around nervously. She swore she could hear the thundering voice of her father reprimanding her for wanting to revel in the delicious looking burger she used to see on television advertisements. That was before her parents sold the television with the idea that it was filling their children's minds with nonsense.
She finished her meal and slurped the last of her shake, feeling slightly bloated.
'Worth it. So worth it.' She grinned, experiencing triumph for disobeying her parents' orders.
It was time to wrap up the festivities and get down to finding a job. It wasn't long until came upon a internet cafe, settled down on one of their computers and began searching around online for open posts in any available productions.
She stumbled upon once-off TV ad shoots paying as little as a couple of hundred Rand. She huffed and closed the window, moving right on to the next. Movies was second in line. She could find nothing in that aspect, and if she had, they required an actress with years and years of experience.
Ultimately, her dream felt more and more like just a dream. Less like a reality. She sat back in the comfy chair and ran her fingers through her hair, ready to through in the towel for now and continue her search after another stroll through town. Spoil herself a little and then returning to her devastating reality.
