Yoongi's brows were deeply furrowed as he watched Jimin's chest rise and fall with every breath he took. Some may find it creepy that Yoongi was watching Jimin sleep, but he was only thinking. And when Yoongi thought, he had to be occupied with at least two things at once or else his mind collapsed. Hence why he was staring at Jimin softly snoring in his bed at 5:04 AM.
There was a lot to think about right now. Yoongi was trying to find an actual job, and as a result of this Jimin had brought up the idea of buying their own place. Which meant moving in, together. Yoongi wasn't sure if he was ready for that kind of commitment. Sure, he loved Jimin, a whole lot, but he'd never really had his own place before. Nothing that was completely his.
Jimin had also been teasing at the idea of dropping out of university; which Yoongi thought sounded like an awful, but at the same time, pretty good idea. Awful in the sense that Jimin would be dropping out of school and good in the sense that Jimin felt miserable where he was at the moment, and Yoongi couldn't stand to see that, so dropping out of school, getting some change and do what he actually wanted to do could possibly be good for Jimin in the long run.
All of this and more had been keeping Yoongi up that night. He couldn't get even a minute of shut-eye. Because what if they needed to find themselves before they could do anything else? Or maybe they could find themselves together? Could they make that separation between Jimin and Yoongi? While at the same time living together and taking care of one another...
"Baby?" Yoongi had, despite staring at Jimin that whole time, failed to notice when the younger woke up. It was more than just the nickname (that Yoongi still wasn't used to) that caught him off guard. Jimin's voice breaking the silence alone made Yoongi's heart skip a beat.
Yoongi stuttered after an explanation. "I- I..." The words simply wouldn't come out.
Jimin was off the bed in a heartbeat, and he kneeled in front of the chair that Yoongi was sitting on to cup his cheeks. "Hey, what's bothering you, love?" Yoongi shook his head. "It's okay. You know you can talk to me." Yoongi shook his head again.
"I don't want to hurt you..." The words came out just below a whisper. They were so low that Jimin nearly missed them. "I- I love you, I think. At least you make me happier than anyone has ever been able to make me. And, and I'm a sceptic by nature, so I don't believe in soulmates or love at first sight or anything... but you make me question everything I've ever believed and I don't- I don't know how to explain it. You're special in a way that I can't explain, logically."
There were tears prickling at the ends of Jimin's eyes (or maybe it was just the morning sun shining in through the window that played a little game with Yoongi's mind, Jimin's eyes might've been glossy because he just woke up), but there was also a smile playing on his lips. He gently took Yoongi's hands in his and felt his cold skin under his thumbs as he ran them over Yoongi's fingers. "I think you're special too. Obviously. I've never met someone before you that I could even consider settling down with. And now, here we are." Yoongi bit his bottom lip, he sensed Jimin wasn't quite done. "I think fate brought us together, you know? Like, we're two puzzle pieces that were just waiting to be put together to make a whole."
Yoongi laughed quietly. "Don't tell me you believe that bullshit. Fate and all."
"Matter of fact, I do." Jimin smiled widely and squeezed Yoongi's hands. "There's a lot of things we still don't know about each other, I'm sure. But I know that I would more than happily find all those things out with time."
There was a beat of silence where Yoongi had time to reflect on the situation in a new light, from another angle. The real reason why he didn't dare go any further was that he was egoistic, he didn't want to get hurt, and the pain would be lesser if their relationship wasn't serious.
He knew that if they got too close the separation would feel like physically ripping one of his own limbs off his body. Logically, he would try to avoid that. But it's rude of him to assume that Jimin would break his heart, or that he'd break Jimin's for that matter.
"I want to be a teacher." Jimin blinked at him a couple of times, obviously stunned by this newly received information. "Like, photography and all that is my passion, but I don't want to work with it. Like you with dance. I wanna work with kids, help them learn and give them some good memories to carry throughout their lives. I wanna make a difference in at least one kid's life. For the better. And kids make me smile, they're cute."
Jimin gave him this look that screamed what the fuck was that, and Yoongi had to laugh.
"Now you know something about me that you didn't know before. Maybe I'll tell you something else tomorrow? A daily fact." Yoongi grinned from ear to ear at the thought, not only because he managed to come up with a cute concept all on his own, but because of the possibility of infinite daily facts.
Jimin offered him a mellow smile and rose to his feet to give Yoongi a fleeting, but honey-sweet kiss. "Come back to bed, you old sap."
