CHAPTER VIII. VIRGIN
I escaped Harry's home early the next morning and prepared myself for school again on Monday. Before I knew it, the first day back had approached and I found myself wishing for a few hours longer in bed. The thought of double math wasn't appealling either.'Remember to put the date at the top of your page, today it is November 3rd 1986.' Mr Stemming says as he writes on the blackboard. 'Today, we're moving away from algebra and entering the exciting world of trigonometry.'
Several groans echoed around the cold room but I couldn't care less, my head was leant against my arm and I was close to falling asleep. Lana's head was being stood up by her hand and her eyes were repeatedly fluttering closed. A knock on the door caused both of our eyes to snap open, it revealed a male student. He stepped inside, wearing a cream shirt with a navy hem and blue jeans, plus plain white sneakers.
'Can I help you?' Mr Stemming asked the boy, white chalk still held in his grip.
'I'm Nico. I'm a new student here.' His English accent flooded the room and I sat up in my seat.
'That's one hell of an accent you've got there. Where are you from?' Mr Stemming questions.
'Manchester in England, sir.' He ruffles his hand through his short auburn hair, his cheeks becoming flustered from standing before the class for so long.
'Well, Nico,' Mr Stemming had checked the clipboard like he did when I first arrived, 'You can go and sit over there behind Adriana Loomer.'
Nico moves over to my desk, I send him a friendly grin as he steps past and to his own desk directly behind. It seemed like he was grateful for the smile, his flustered cheeks fading slightly.
'Okay so since we're into the November month and into another topic of math; I decided that it would be a good idea for our next class to be an exam.' The class groaned again. Lana had fallen asleep against the desk but Mr Stemming didn't seem to care. 'But I'm not an entirely evil person, so I will allow you to partner up and begin revising in pairs. There's no better use for a friend than group studying!'
I glance over to Lana who was deep into her dream-world.
'Today, we're doing it differently. Since there's four rows, I'd like the first and third row to turn around; the person behind you will be your partner for this class. Let the studying commence!'
So I was partnered with the new boy. I felt slightly nervous as I thought about speaking to him; but I reminded myself of being in the same position merely months before.
'Hey. Looks like you're my partner.' He says with a deep smile once I've turned to face him. I return it, along with a sigh of relief.
'I'm Adriana. It's good to meet you.' I tell him.
'I'm Nico.' He looks to the table, then back up to me. 'You're from Maine, I presume?'
'No, Pennsylvania. I moved here in May.'
'Oh, so we've been in similar positions then?' He chuckles, and so do I. It was strange to be around somebody with a similar accent to Harry. Thinking of Harry made my blood boil but it did help a plan form in my head.
'Do you have many friends here?'
'Not many, I only moved here a week or two ago.' A strange look flashed over his eyes but it was gone as swiftly as it had appeared.
'There's a guy I know that throws parties every Friday, it could be a good way for you to make some friends and meet mine.' I offer.
'To go with you?' His eyebrows raise, his mouth pulling into another smile.
