It's colder then normal. The stars were out to say hello a lot louder when I walked towards the bar.
We walk in, Jamie offers to pay but then we decide to split it between everyone in the end.
It was a very different to vibe to when I arrived. It's all relief and unwanted nostalgia, as if we're all old.
And I blurted the most universal conversation starter ever.
"Did you know-
If you eat a monkey, it's cannibalism"
"Ha, can't eat me then can ya'."
"Like it would be different if you weren't in a band"
Matt just gave a light-hearted chuckle. He looks back down and then makes full on eye contact.
We stare into each other, to the point where we don't know what we're doing.
"Sooo-
Beers anyone?"
We all get in for a beer. We take swigs whenever we get a question, like the adult version of any card game.
"Nick"
"Yup?"
"How old is Jamie?"
Jamie looks to Nick with perched lips and his brows raising.
Nick.. just looks blank.
"No fookn' clue"
"32-
Now take a swig since ya' got it wrong"
Nick takes a painful swig. Honestly, he looked like a cat who's tail has been stepped on.
"Alrighty.. Alex"
"Yeah"
"When did you and Maggie first..."
I stare wide eyed at Jamie. Almost looking at him like 'don't you fucking dare' but with a hint of 'I'll cut your balls off'.
"-have sex"
Jamie sits with a pleasured grin on his face. Looking at me and Alex with 3 words that can only describe his thoughts-
Jokes on you
Alex thinks to himself in this situation. I can tell cause whenever he's deeply thinking, he closes his eyes and turns his face to the floor.
"emmm...."
I want to cover my ears.
"It was on New Years. The year we finished school"
"Where?"
"In the guest bedroom of your place"
He.. remembers our first time together?
I look at him, smile mixed with shock. He just looked at me plainly, then looked away sorrowfully.
"Is that correct mags?"
"Yes"
They all snigger and laugh. So proud they can make us feel embarrassed at 28.
